You will find this sign at our 6th-grade basketball team's gym. To encourage self-awareness, we ask the boys "How did you do in school today?" and "How did you do in practice today?" There isn't a correct answer. What we want is for them to reflect on their actions and consider what they could or should do differently. Developing self-awareness is essential for growth and success, both on and off the court. So, take a moment to ask yourself: how did you do today? #SelfAwareness #PersonalGrowth #Success

Stop copying the competition—your audience needs *your* solution. This morning, I finally met my past client Chasity McMillan of Flip for Function, LLC, IRL! After years of planning, she’s opened her new inclusive and adaptive gymnastics gym in Brentwood, TN. 🎉 One of her biggest takeaways? You don’t have to follow industry norms—because your business isn’t like anyone else’s. When they first launched day camps, they ran them from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.—because that’s what other gyms did. But once they opened their new space, Chasity realized the schedule wasn’t working for their audience or their team. So, they pivoted. Now, they offer two camp sessions—one in the morning, one in the afternoon—with early drop-off and extended care options. The results? ✅ More sign-ups ✅ Higher prices ✅ Increased revenue The takeaway: If you're doing things just because they work for someone else, it’s time to pause. Ask yourself: 👉 What does my audience *actually* need? When you focus on their needs, success follows.

Imagine a young athlete, full of passion and determination, pursuing his dreams in the world of sports. His parents, equally enthusiastic, support her every step of the way, discussing her sports endeavors and the potential outcomes. However, despite their positive intentions, these conversations inadvertently create a subtle pressure that the young athlete feels deeply. In such situations, it's important to recognize the impact of subtle parental pressures on young athletes. While the parents may not directly demand excellence, their discussions and expectations can weigh heavily on the child, leading to feelings of being trapped or unable to express themselves fully. To address this, fostering open and empathetic communication is key. Encouraging the young athlete to express her feelings and concerns to her parents can help alleviate the pressure and create a more supportive environment. It's also crucial to educate parents about the unintended consequences of their words and actions, helping them understand the importance of nurturing their child's love for the sport without adding undue stress. As sports psychologists, our role is to advocate for the well-being of young athletes, both on and off the field. By raising awareness about these subtle yet significant challenges, we can work towards creating a healthier and more empowering environment for youth athletes to thrive. #SportsPsychology #YouthAthletes #ParentalPressure #MentalWellBeing #Empowerment #OpenCommunication #cricket #Football #Tennis #badminton #swimming #Boxing

Towards the end of 2023, I delivered a block of 4 ‘Mind Gym’ sessions to part of the junior academy! Mind Gyms this season are based around the 4C’s which is a sport psychology model for the qualities an athlete needs for success. We chose to order them as Challenge, Confidence, Commitment and Control. When delivering psychoeducational workshops I ask myself how can I make this as relevant to the athletes as possible? One way to make sure the session is relevant is to look at the timing of the delivery, compared to the timeline of their season. For example, athletes will likely find it more useful for sessions about quick and easy mental skills they can use during games, close to the time they’re playing, rather than months before. This is why this particular block of Mind Gyms focused on building these qualities outside rugby. #sportpsychology#workshop#mentalskills #wellbeing#confidence#rugbyunion

🏅 To All Gymnast Parents and Coaches: A Hilarious Reality Check! 🏅 🌟 Parents’ Dream: Every gymnast parent thinks their child is the next Olympic champion. It’s the main reason why sports federations are flooded with drama, accusations, and endless complaints. 😆 Athletes’ Excuses: The funny part? When athletes win, it’s because they were the talented ones. When they lose, it’s suddenly all the coach’s fault. Sounds familiar, right? 💪 Dear Coaches: Don’t be sad and just let it go. Without you, these young athletes would struggle to wake up for those grueling morning training sessions. You’re the unsung heroes behind every success and every early morning practice. Let’s face it, sports parents, we all think our kids are Olympic material, but let’s give a shoutout to the coaches who keep the dream alive (and keep their sanity intact) amidst the chaos! 😂👏 #GymnasticsReality #SportsParents #CoachLife #AthleteExcuses #OlympicDreams #KeepItUpCoaches
