In Maricopa County, summer heat is deadly. A preliminary report from the Maricopa Association of Governments showed that 645 people died from heat-related illness in 2023, a 52% increase from 2022. As the temperature in the Valley rises to over 110°F, it's clear that action is needed now more than ever. It's simple: heat relief efforts and supplies save lives. We need your help to provide another 1,000 VF100 water filters to families in Chimaltenango, Guatemala. 💧🇬🇹 Our water project in the rural community outside of Chimaltenango has already provided 1,000 VF100 water filters to low income families. But there are still families lacking this essential, lifesaving resource. Guatemala is the number one country in Latin America for child malnutrition. Its levels of stunting in children under the age of five is close to 50%. Only half the population has access to uncontaminated drinking water that is readily available. Currently there is no clean water infrastructure in the community we are working in. If a family isn’t able to purchase bottled water from a market, they have no option but to drink water that can make them sick. Together let's change and save lives, one water filter at a time. Foodbank’s Australia 2024 Hunger report highlights the hunger crisis that is gripping Australian communities with 3.4 million households experiencing food insecurity over the past 12 months. This latest data shows the critical need for continued food donations to support families in need. This problem isn’t unique to Australia, with one in five children in New Zealand living in households also experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity. Today is World Food Day, and donations made on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 October will be doubled thanks to the generosity of matched funding partners. Whether you donate under TAC, another organisation, or as an individual, your contribution supports the many people doing it tough across the Geelong region to put food on the table, and the incredible work of Give Where You Live Foundation Food for thought: ·      It is estimated that every week the Geelong food relief sector supports around 9,000 client interactions, over 2,000 food parcels, provision of 34,000 meals, and nearly 23,000 kg of food ·      GWYL distributes around $130,000 annually through its Community Choice voucher program, supporting over 7,500 people each year ·      67% of people accessing GWYL’s Community Choice voucher program are female ·      55% of food insecure households in Victoria had someone in paid work (Foodbank Hunger Report 2022) ·      The Geelong region has the third highest rate of homelessness in Victoria (after Dandenong and Monash, all higher than in Melbourne’s inner city)
