🚀 A New Way to Hire at Zave! We were all tired of the same old hiring process – long, tedious, and frankly, kind of boring. So, at Zave, we decided to shake things up. Instead of the usual resume and interview routine, we launched a competition to find our next star. As this was my first time hiring someone, I wanted to do something exciting. I created a Framer website with a countdown timer and an assignment brief to make the process more interactive and fun. This way, candidates could dive right in, showcase their skills, and bypass the traditional, drawn-out steps. It was faster, more engaging, and let us see real talent in action from the get-go. 💬 What do you think of this competitive approach to hiring? I applied to Rivian. I have an interview Friday. This is with a different team and different tool. If I fail, the interview process is broken. Its for the same job, same title, same work. If they ask a LeetCode problem I am going to fail. I worked there already for almost 2 years. I was told the hiring manager is very interested in me based on what I had on my resume, which tells me, what I already know, there is no difference in the work and responsibilities. I am a perfect fit, and likely nobody else is in the current pool of candidates. But if I get some random LeetCode problem, and I fail, this is going to be the most dumbest interview of all time and the world needs to hear about it, to stop with this nonsense.

My newest article for Exponent is all about getting a job at Bolt! Writing about interview processes at tech companies is a fun process for me because not only do I learn more about interviewing, but I also learn a lot about top companies right now. Bolt was totally new to me, but the mission of eliminating the need to own personal cars is so appealing, I immediately looked up open roles there. Alas, my next step in my research process showed me that Bolt doesn't have a presence in the US ... Yet, at least! Layoffs will continue into 2025. Hate interviewing? Same here. Here’s some advice to help you ace your next interview: 1️⃣ 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝘀. Ask someone you trust what your strengths are. Write them down and be very specific about it. You're good at planning? When? Give a specific example. Use this to frame your POV on what you excel at. 2️⃣ 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗕𝗪𝗢𝗧 𝗮𝗻𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: - Issue - Breakthrough (What was your breakthrough in solving it? Did you have a specific insight?) - Work (How did you make that insight the solution? Who helped?) - Outcome - Take away 3️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲 Write down a few IBWOTs for the following: - Example of a time the team couldn't align - You were under-resourced - A time you went against the grain/showed courage Ask interviewers ahead of time (honestly, just email them!), "Is there anything you'd like me to get prepared or think about ahead of the interview?" It's fine to come with a few warmer examples from your history if you struggle to come up with perfect answers on the spot. 4️⃣ 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲 Don't be afraid of silence. Be open to saying, "That's a great question, let me think about it for a minute."
