Meet Laura, our Assistant Financial Controller!
Read about her experiences, challenges, and triumphs as she shares her insights on empowerment and her career at Courtyard by Marriott Berlin City Center.
1. Why did you choose a career in the hotel industry, specifically your current role at Marriott?
I chose a career in the hotel industry because hospitality is diverse, offering numerous opportunities for advancement and the chance to work in different cities. During my training as an event management assistant, I got to experience various departments and ultimately decided to pursue a career in accounting.
2. How has Marriott, particularly our Courtyard by Marriott Berlin City Center, supported your professional development (and contributed to making you feel empowered)?
I was able to progress from Supervisor to Assistant Financial Controller at the Courtyard, and then I also had the opportunity to work for two hotels, both of which are very different. This allowed our team to grow, and the transition to working with two hotels has been and continues to be an exciting change in our daily work routine.
3. What obstacles have you possibly encountered on your journey, and how have you overcome them?
We had many changes within our accounting team, which allowed me to take on additional responsibilities and learn a lot in the process.
4. What advice would you give to young women aspiring to a similar career in hospitality or another field?
Although I was initially skeptical about moving to Berlin, it turned out to be a great opportunity that I don't regret. It allowed me to further develop myself. So, one should always pursue what they enjoy and be brave enough to explore new paths.
