Much as I try to seek out shafts of light as they penetrate mist and fog, I’ve never witnessed anything like this before. Once I’d positioned myself correctly (a pace or two either way and the effect was much diminished), the light seemed to explode through the trees fanning out in all directions. 🌃📸 A recent night flight over Downtown Denver at about 2,000 feet was a departure from the norm—a nocturnal venture into the realm of RGB imagery. While I'm no stranger to the skies at low altitudes, the cover of darkness brought a new dimension to the experience. The mission? To capture the city as it's rarely seen. But night photography from the sky is a challenge of its own. The images we got were a departure from the usual detail-rich snapshots we're accustomed to. Our main camera, armed with an F4.0 lens, did a commendable job, yet the darkness of night was a formidable opponent. As I poured over the imagery, it struck me how even at maximum aperture, the lens was sharp, but perhaps too conservative for the night's canvas. To truly do justice to the city's nocturnal beauty, a wider lens would be key. An F2.8, or even better, a finely tuned F2.0, could be the answer to capturing the vibrant interplay of shadows and light, detailing the unseen and bringing the night to life. This flight was more than a task; it was a learning curve. It's not just about getting the shot; it's about understanding the interplay of trigonometry and the exposure triangle to capture a moment most don't get to see and derive actionable results. #AerialPhotography #NightFlight #Denver #PhotographyChallenges #UrbanExploration

ZipNeRF and CamP from #googleresearch allow unmatched detail, but alas I still cannot defeat the floaters with my own dataset. This shoot was triggered via bluetooth exiting the room for each photo to ensure my body wouldn't cast shadows, but during this time the cloud cover illuminating the room may have changed and the tripod self shadow and possibly photography of the tripod itself has caused the floaters. Who knows? The more you learn the more you need to test. But how awesome will this technology be once the acquisition process is without mystery?
