You can’t really see what’s happening at all in this picture, so let me paint the scene. After every rehearsal, the Penguin Project artists and mentors dance to “Don’t Stop Believing”, and then do the Penguin Project cheer…”Good job, good job, good job penguins!!” Last night closed The Talent Machine Company’s first Penguin Project production. O, my middle son, helped direct. He thrived in this leadership role. He made a personal connection with each kid. He helped teach choreography, lines, blocking, helped imagine props, lighting, and tech needs before the kids took the stage. C, my youngest, was an artist. I’ve talked a lot about how he looks up to his older brothers and wanted nothing more than to perform with The Talent Machine Company, just like they did. At the end of the show last night, O ran on stage to lead the Penguin Project cheer. After, he grabbed C and embraced him with so much love and pride, it literally spilled out of him. And the pride my husband and I felt in that moment spilled out of us. We were all a blubbering mess. Because our kids found their place, their home, their confidence… and it will forever shape how they walk through life. It means that C found a place where he belongs, and O realized the power of what that means for the future of humanity. This world is meant to be diverse and inclusive and programs like this lay the foundation. #inclusion #belonging #acceptance #AccessibleMusicalTheater #InclusiveMusicalTheater

Greetings! The second weekend of Pixar’s INSIDE OUT 2 was the second-highest weekend box office performance of the year, trailing only itself in its record-breaking opening last weekend. The $100M it earned in the past three days is the top second weekend total in the history of animated films, higher than last year’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE which earned $92.3M in its weekend #2 and 2018’s INCREDIBLES 2’s which earned $80.3M. At long last, Disney is enjoying a renaissance in theatres, having the top two movies of the summer with 20th Century’s KINGDOM OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and now Pixar’s INSIDE OUT 2. After Disney acquired Pixar (2006), Marvel (2009), Lucasfilm (2012) and 21st Century Fox (2019), everyone assumed that it would be the theatrical market share leader every year. But it has not earned that crown since 2019, and doubters had begun to wonder whether it would ever get back to that position. Dig into the latest results in Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review. You can also check out our critic’s review of THE BIKERIDERS, the widest opening new movie and #3 box office performer of the weekend. In our Don’t Kill the Messenger podcast, host Kevin Goetz welcomes Hollywood actress and icon Sharon Stone, who shares intimate stories about her upbringing, her journey into modeling and acting, and some of the challenges she has faced in the entertainment industry. #insideout2 #insideout #pixar #pixarstudios #disney #kingdomoftheplanetoftheapes #planetoftheapes #20thcenturystudios #thebikeriders #focusfeatures #sharonstone #kevingoetz #dontkillthemessenger #boxoffice #screendollars

Much like how Pixar's shorts (many would be shown before their features) would not only help showcase their latest CG innovations, but would give future directors the chance to run their own projects, like Enrico Casarosa (from La Luna to Luca) and Domee Shi (from Bao to Turning Red)! 😄❤️🎞 I always like to think that Pixar's aim from the beginning was to go AGAINST the idea that a studio should be about ONE person and their legacy - e.g. what would Walt Disney have done? 🫤💭 #creativity #authorship #directing #studios #animation #animationindustry
“I don’t know how it all happened. None of us ever thought we would do our own shows. That just didn’t exist back then…Then Cartoon Network started and they had this opportunity to do shorts. We made the shorts. The ones that communicated the best got picked to be a series.” - Genndy Tartakovsky, creator of Dexter’s Laboratory 🧪👓 With the release of ‘Dexter’s Laboratory: The Complete Series’ from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment, the groundbreaking writer/director/artist discusses all things ‘Dexter,’ girl power, listening to your gut, and the glories of cartoony-ness. Greetings! Universal’s TWISTERS touched down this weekend with a bracing $80.5M in ticket sales. After five weeks led by animated family films DESPICABLE ME 4 and INSIDE OUT 2, the summer action genre stepped back into its traditional leading role. DM4 and IO2 were also solid contributors, leading to a weekend gross of $147.2M for all titles. TWISTERS’ surprising success took some of the edge off what would otherwise have been a difficult comparison to last year, when the dual openings of BARBIE and OPPENHEIMER powered the weekend box office to $311M, its best total of the year. Exhibitors will enjoy another thrill next weekend when Marvel’s long-anticipated DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE arrives. The R-Rated superhero matchup combines the forces of two beloved characters, the wisecracking DEADPOOL played by Ryan Reynolds and the nimble slasher WOLVERINE played by Hugh Jackman. Its opening weekend may be over twice that of TWISTERS’ this weekend. For more results, check out Dick Walsh’s Weekend Review. You will also enjoy reading Alonso Duralde’s review of TWISTERS, published in partnership with The Film Verdict. In this week’s Don’t Kill the Messenger podcast, host Kevin Goetz enjoys a conversation with DeVon Franklin, known for his work on inspirational films such as Breakthrough, Miracles from Heaven, and Flamin' Hot, as well as the BET series Kingdom Business. #twisters #universalpictures #glenpowell #despicableme4 #illuminationentertainment #insideout2 #disney #pixar #devonfranklin #kevingoetz #dontkillthemessenger #boxoffice #boxofficepreview #screendollars
