For #PhilanthropyThursday we are highlighting Evans Scholars 🎓 The Western Golf Association conducts championships for professional and amateur golfers, promotes the use of youth caddies and supports the Evans Scholars Foundation's efforts to award full tuition and housing college scholarships to high-achieving caddies with limited financial means. With college costs rising, families everywhere are in need of financial assistance. Evans Scholars Foundations helps send deserving young caddies to college! In 2022, the Western Golf Association and Evans Scholars Foundation continued on a path of record growth; they have 1,100 Evans Scholars at more than 20 universities! They successfully raised $371 million for to achieve this goal. Evans Scholars form supportive communities at universities nationwide. Despite many of their scholars coming from circumstances that put top colleges out of reach or make navigating the college experience difficult, they excel to the tune of a cumulative 3.3 GPA and 95 percent graduation rate. It’s the end of year and time to give! I need at least 50 business or giving people to consider donating $1,000 or more each to help build a school for my Maa Eagles girls! These girls come from villages where they are traditionally married off at very young ages for cattle and goat. As primary agricultural workers and water gatherers they endure some of the harshest impacts of climate change, causing them to walk further for water sources which puts them at risk for heat related illnesses and predatory violence. Maa Eagles sends these girls to school to become educated and reposition their futures. Right now we have 30 girls in primary school and 30 in secondary school. We graduated 12 girls from college last year. The girls are in private schools, which is very expensive. We’d like to build a school to allow more girls to attend, be closer to their families and villages, and give them a tailored experience that allows for optimal learning. We need help. Most ECs are a WASTE OF TIME. If you want to get into an Ivy League College you have to spend your time with clubs that will allow you to demonstrate your talents to the highest level. 🦸🏼♂️ COMMUNITY HERO! I can’t even begin to describe the incredible work that this guy does for his community. It comes as no surprise that Jon Radford is a finalist for the ‘Community Focus’ category at the BFA awards, as he makes such an incredible impact across his local area. Jon came on board with the FFF with a mission to make football fun for the city of Exeter and to give back to his local community. His emotional ties to where he lives has resulted in a community-led approach which has inadvertently supersized his business. It’s so true that when you give more than you receive, you tend to win. Jon and his wife Becky give their community so much value through community-based initiative and here’s a few examples: 👉🏻 Decreasing anti-social behaviour through free football sessions in a local park. 👉🏻 Organising for participants to be mascots at Exeter City football matches. 👉🏻 Sponsoring Exeter City women’s team. 👉🏻 Growing female participation by running girls only sessions. 👉🏻 Delivering HAF funded activities and hot meals for children eligible free school meals, in the school holidays. I could go on and list loads more, but there’s a character limit! Jon’s values and love for his community has driven his business success. This isn’t a business development strategy though, it’s pure passion for giving children and families opportunities. We like to say that it is the people who make BOEC special due largely to one similarity, an indelible passion for what we do. Board member Gurney Sloan describes this sentiment from his position on the board. “During my career, I’ve seen nonprofits succeed and fail. Assuming a board candidate has the credentials, such as a background in fundraising, governance, law, or whatever, the most important quality after that is passion for the cause.
