More of this, please! Independent Schools should do what they can to offer opportunities to those who need opportunity most. Rather than campaigning to abolish fee-paying schools, perhaps we should encourage more independent/state school partnerships to drive up standards and opportunities for social mobility in the state education sector. If Independent schools want to show their worth when it comes to retaining their charitable status (in addition to the many scholarships and bursaries they provide), this is surely the way to go. #educationlaw #teesside #socialmobility

Two years ago we created the Drs. Davis and Alexander Honorary Scholarship Fund to recognize the legacy and leadership of Drs. Terri Davis and Apryl Alexander at the University of Denver and in the overall psychology community. This scholarship fund specifically provides support to BIPOC students within our former department, the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP). As described here (Addressing the Shortage: The Crucial Need for BIPOC Therapists in America’s Diverse Communities – MHA Spartanburg), and elsewhere, the demand for representative care from BIPOC therapists is related to their unique ability to provide a shared cultural experience and understanding for BIPOC patients. Yet, there is a dramatic shortage - the current ratio of BIPOC persons to BIPOC therapists (1,002:1) is woefully inadequate to meet currently growing mental health needs nationwide. As we continue to honor Drs. Davis and Alexander, both of whom go above and beyond to train more BIPOC providers via their teaching, mentorship, advocacy, and modeling, we know we need more funding to continue to support new BIPOC providers entering the field. Graduate coursework in psychology costs tens of thousands of dollars and student loan debt is a main reason potential trainees choose not to enter or to leave the field. Friends and colleagues, please consider donating anything you are able to support a BIPOC trainee to continue their studies in Psychology. And/or please share this post to widen our giving audience. Together, we can help diversify the field, encouraging all who need care to seek support.

Huston-Tillotson University (HT) recently unveiled its strategic plan for the next decade.  Approved by the HT Board of Trustees, the plan, titled “From First to Foremost: Huston-Tillotson University 2024-2034,” is the culmination of an inclusive process that spanned several months and included the gathering of input from representatives of several key stakeholder groups, including students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, community and business leaders and local elected officials. “Our 10-year plan establishes a clear, long-term vision for HT,” said Melva K. Wallace, who is completing her second year as the university’s 7th president. “It is the blueprint that we will use during the next ten years to solidify our position not only as a premier historically Black university, but as a top institution of higher education in the state of Texas. What are the Educational, Health, or Economic Benefits to these Players and their Families for that kids uncompensated participation in any additional “NON-SCHOLARSHIP” private third-party postseason football games that pay the Universities and the Conferences for the use of their free labor to put on these highly profitable Bowl events. The answer is ZERO! These additional 1-5 POSTSEASON games are also above the Players’ 12 game athletic scholarship agreement? Our Proposal offers Major Benefits in all three Categories to the Players and their Families! Scholarship Football Players are owed Hundreds of Millions of dollars from this year’s Media contract that uses these Players’ Name, Image, and Likeness NIL without any equitable financial consideration to the Players or their Families! This lost Money could have a major impact on these Players lives, the lives of their current and future family members for generations? We do not support, or agree with the House vs NCAA Settlement or the current covert attempts to extend and expand this Antitrust exploitation of our young (mostly minority) FB & BB Players' labor that the US Supreme Court and Federal District Court have recently struck down as illegal and implausible.

At ACE Scholarships , we champion school choice for its transformative impact. We've awarded over 80,000 scholarships across 12 states, providing children with educational freedom and opportunities. We're proud to announce that ACE is administering Utah's new ESA program, providing over $42.5 million annually to 5,000 children. However, there's still much more to be done – especially in jurisdictions resistant to school choice. As we commemorate National School Choice Week 2024, let's focus on those less fortunate. Without the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion department, the job falls to the Office of the Provost, who already has their hands full, to raise money for the university and continue to advance the academic studies and athletic programs. We cannot continue to believe and trust that a team of leaders all made up of the same background will make the right decision when it comes to equality and diversity. History has already proven that is not the case. Instead of showing courage and leadership, we continue to fail based on systemic issues and with this decision, UFlorida has conformed to the political pressures of today’s time, To the MANY, minority athletes at UF, please be aware and vocal about the decision by the University who is now closing the doors on other minorities without any oversight. And to those who think it’s not your problem and stay on the side lines and say nothing, you are complicit in supporting systemic issues.” -Emmit Smith, former NFL player Pro Football Hall of Fame In 2023, the Florida football program made $93,206,919 in total revenue and paid out $60,894,176 in expenses. The program raked in a net profit of $32,312,743 for the university. 32 million dollars. Diversity, equity and inclusion are the ONLY reasons Florida athletics is able to compete in the Southeastern Conference. The ONLY reason. In a related (fantastic) story, what if all 67 Black players on the 2024 Florida football roster decided to leverage the transfer portal for playing opportunities at Florida A&M, Alabama A&M, Prairie View A&M, Bethune-Cookman, Howard, Southern and Grambling Universities. ‘Day of Absence’ wants to be reality.

Financial barriers to higher education include: limited access to (and lack of awareness of) financial aid, limited means of families, and the higher cost of attendance. There is a gap scholarship available, the link is below.

Last night, Boston College officially announced its largest capital campaign in history. Soaring Higher, a $3 billion initiative to raise funding for academics, financial aid, and student life, seeks to increase financial aid opportunities, enhance teaching and scholarship across all of BC’s schools and colleges, and grow student internships, graduate fellowships, and support for international study. The campaign also focuses on support for Messina College, a residential, two-year program for underserved students that will open at Boston College in 2024. Soaring Higher is just the beginning - the future is bright! 🦅 "Central to the campaign is an initiative to raise $1 billion to boost financial aid for low- and middle-income families, helping BC to maintain its commitment to need-blind admissions and meeting the full demonstrated need of undergraduate students.
