If you’re looking to enhance your career in any way, you should be paying attention to executive presence. 💥 Here’s 3 quick ways you can begin enhancing yours: ✅Become a better listener ---- Engage in meetings and give your full attention and focus. Practice active listening by summarizing or paraphrasing back what you heard. ✅Be clear and concise ---- Consider the ‘why’ behind your message to ensure you are communicating with purpose. Use bullets in email messages instead of paragraphs. When sharing your thoughts, narrow it down to two key points you want to make. ✅Feedback and Self-Reflection -----Seek feedback from peers and leaders. Find a mentor. Take time for honest self-reflection. In short, executive presence is about how others perceive and experience you. Being perceived as leadership material is crucial if you want to be promoted into leadership positions – and just like any skill, your executive presence improves the more you practice! Thank you Elizabeth Exline for a fun conversation on this topic and for weaving our winding conversation into a clear and concise article! #executivepresence #careertips

Strategic Talent Acquisition Executive | Retained Executive Search | Financial Services/ Private Equity | Professional Services | Middle Market
I want to correct what I see as a misconception: People strategy doesn't support business strategy. It's a key part of it. Therefore, the Head of People or CHRO must be in the room when a company develops its business strategy. Culture is part of a business strategy, too. We develop this misconception when we see strategy and execution of that strategy as separate. How we execute strategy should be part of business strategy. There's no such thing as a great strategy and poor execution. A strategy without a good execution plan is a bad strategy. Likewise, a business strategy that doesn't consider the people side of business is a bad strategy. Private equity firms have learned that one of their biggest challenges to value creation is poor leadership and talent in the business. They've learned that the people side can make or break a business. So, why do we, as HR or Talent leaders, see our roles as merely support or enablement? To play a critical role in the business, we have to be strategic and have strong business acumen. We have to be able to put ourselves in the shoes of the CEO and understand how all the parts fit together. Not every leader in HR and Talent can do this, and too often, people leaders are perceived as unable to do this. That's on us not to demand a seat at the table but to earn it. I'll say people aren't enablers of strategy. They are critical components of a company's strategy. HR and Talent leaders are business leaders who contribute their expertise in the people side of the business to shape strategy and facilitate the people side as a critical competitive advantage.
