Just like media content. So I think being a PR pro is a bit like being a barista, crafting the perfect blend (angle) depending on who you're serving. 🗞 Mail Online? A no-nonsense Double Espresso, and ready to give you a jolt of information (or drama). 🗞 Buzzfeed? Think Frappuccino with extra whipped cream and sprinkles—playful, OTT colourful, and capturing the zeitgeist. Both brews are coffee, but each tailored to suit different tastes. And in PR, we know that one size doesn’t fit all, as every outlet craves its own unique ‘blend’ of content. Press releases are a hot topic among producers. I get about 200 emails from PR people daily. Today, I got a really good one that I won't share, but it reminded me of some basic things I look for in a press release. 1. Date: If your event is today, it is too late to send it. I sometimes schedule guests a month or so out for events the week or day of. 2. Why should my viewers care? You have to give me something that will benefit my viewers. A store opening or restaurant opening doesn't do it. Give me something useful and beneficial. 3. Relationships: The most important thing is to develop a relationship with me. I work with several PR people; they are my go-to people when I want to do a segment.
