With the opening of the new Center for Events and Sports, the county now has a single, state-of-the-art facility to host a wide range of tournaments and gatherings. 1st impressions are so important in this field of buisness. Look professional and makes you stand out form the crowd.

Today, I spent an hour on the phone with a retired couple struggling to choose between Kingsport and Johnson City. To help them decide, I reframed the conversation, saying, "Although you'd have a Kingsport address, you're not choosing a specific city; you're buying into a region and all it has to offer." They were moving from a much larger metro area with long commutes. I highlighted the accessibility of key amenities and the distance from the house they're considering: TRI Airport is 11 minutes away. Target (Kingsport) is 17 minutes away. The Pinnacle (Bristol) is 20 minutes away. Bays Mountain (Kingsport) is 23 minutes away. Sam's Club (Johnson City) is 25 minutes away. Mountain Home V.A. (Johnson City) is 31 minutes away. The respective downtowns of the Tri-Cities are 18, 24, and 28 minutes away. Historic Jonesborough and Abingdon are 30 and 32 minutes away. I suggested, "If you were looking in Knoxville, you'd consider everything available within a half-hour drive. Why not think about the TRI region the same way?" It's time for us locals to start viewing our amenities as part of a collective region rather than city by city. While some people may choose a downtown loft for walkable amenities, most of us navigate between the Tri-Cities without hesitation. They had also been influenced by negative comments from various regional citizens touting one city over another. They were even considering buying a house a couple of miles away just for a different postal code. In reality, there's only a tiny difference between any place in Northeast Tennessee. Instead of competing unnecessarily, let's market our collective attributes.
