67% of 4th graders in the US read below grade level & it's time to change that! I empower schools, districts, and states to help EVERY child learn to read the brain-friendly, research-based way. Take my free training:
The U.S. is in a literacy crisis. Just 33% of fourth-grade students performed at or above their grade level NAEP reading proficiency level in 2022. Why should you care? Research has shown that illiteracy is a significant factor in whether adolescents graduate from high school... And beyond the obvious benefits of being able to enter the work force literate, U.S. Department of Justice statistics link incarceration and illiteracy with 70% of incarcerated adults unable to read above a fourth-grade level. We need to agree that EVERY child has a right to the systematic, sequential, and explicit evidence-based instruction most students need in order to be successful. And we need to do something about it now. Since knowledge is power, I created a free training for you called "Science of Reading for Administrators". Sign up right here: https://lnkd.in/eCAnRyYT

Many of our neighbors don't have to imagine, but there is help available! Literacy NRV aims to help adults achieve their literacy-related goals to become successful parents, workers, and community members, and they do so in the hopes of giving individuals the power to change their lives, resulting in true community transformation. https://lnkd.in/eunk2fe6

Last week I gave testimony at the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Education. Education is the #1 issue families raise with us and I shared what we hear from families about their children's experience of education: -Lack of reasonable adjustments -Exclusion of students, including reduced hours -Not enough focus on literacy, numeracy and vocational opportunities -Limited supervision that means children can hurt themselves or be hurt by others I also spoke up for what families tell us helps makes education better: -An inclusive, can-do attitude from Principals -Support for teachers to implement reasonable adjustments -Increased accountability and transparency You can read more about the inquiry here https://lnkd.in/gDzrh_Ww #disabilityadvocacy #education #studentswithdisability
