Two weeks in at Fynd, and I couldn't be more stoked to be right back where I belong! 🧡   These past couple of weeks have been an epic whirlwind - packed with BIG days, reconnecting with some of my favourite faces, and diving headfirst back into the buzzing Brissy tech + digital community. We’re so lucky to collaborate with some of the brightest minds in Brisbane, and the support from our network is nothing short of heartwarming. There's also lots to share with you all on the digital front soon #watchthisspace.🔥🙊   This year has thrown me some unexpected curveballs, and for a moment, I thought I was closing the chapter on my time in the People + Talent world. But you know what? It wasn’t recruitment that I stopped loving - it was all about landing back in the right place to love it again.     There’s truly something magical about being surrounded by people you deeply respect - where values align, and the motivation to leap out of bed each morning feels effortless. I think we can all relate to that struggle when it’s not so easy at times, right?    “Culture” might be a buzzword we hear all the time, but few really grasp its true depth. I bang on about the importance of culture almost every day in my job, but this year has really shown me firsthand just how vital it is to get it right. It all starts with your people, and it has to run deeper than the surface.     So, I’m curious - what does a thriving culture look like to you, and how do you nurture it within your teams? LYZA LEFT AND IT HIT ME HARD. HOW TO HANDLE A GREAT STAFF LEAVING. In 2016, an incredible person named Lyza Nnenna Adiukwu joined our team at Excel and Grace Consulting. She worked with us for over two years before embarking on a new journey. When Lyza left, it was tough for me. At our businesses, we celebrate departures with gratitude – employees hardly ever leave in badblood, but she left a unique mark. I attempted to replace her, and I looked for someone exactly like her. I failed oh, I failed miserably. Ever been in a situation where you tried to find someone just like in a past relationship? It doesn't work, right? The same goes for business. Lyza was one of a kind, and I couldn't replicate her. I've seen it in our business and with clients time and time again. You have a stellar employee, they leave, and you seek someone exactly like them, basically you are looking for their clone. There's ONLY ONE version of you on earth, meaning there is no other person exactly like that your staff. How did things change? We focused on CREATING PROCESSES and making sure most things in our business followed clear processes. We made our business PROCESS DEPENDENT, and not PEOPLE DEPENDENT. Now, when we hire, we seek intelligent, creative minds who can follow our processes and even improve them. No more chasing clones or hoping to find exact replicas. That's what structure does. #TheSurgeon

I've got a story for you, one that might resonate if you’ve ever felt out of place or undervalued in your professional journey. About two or three years ago, I started eyeing a company down in Dallas, Texas. The plan was to move from Little Rock, Arkansas, and I was eager for the new opportunity. I followed their every move – from new hires to their vibrant "welcome to the team" posts. But there was something unsettling that I couldn’t ignore. Scrolling through their website, their social media posts, and their team photos, I noticed a glaring pattern: there was no one who looked like me. The team was mostly young, white men and women, with maybe an Asian face here and there. No diversity, no representation. It was clear that I wouldn’t be seen or valued the way I deserve to be. So, I made a decision. I stopped pursuing a position with this company. In light of the recent DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) rollbacks, this experience feels even more poignant. It's a reminder that we should go where we’re wanted and valued, not just where we think the grass might be greener. But here’s the flip side: my experience with the North Little Rock School District has been the total and exact opposite. Here, I’ve felt seen, valued, and part of a truly inclusive team that celebrates diversity. It’s a testament to what a workplace should be – welcoming and empowering for everyone. To anyone who’s felt the same – who’s looked at a company and thought, “Do they see me?” – let this be your inspiration. Don’t waste your time or talent on places that don’t recognize your worth. Seek out environments that celebrate you, that uplift you, and that reflect the beautiful diversity of our world. I believe in the power of diversity and the strength it brings to any team and I'm injecting that into the culture of Lancorp Digital Solutions. Congrats to BrightHire on an amazing year. A few takeaways: - Speed is the most important thing in a startup. BrightHire has shipped new products and features at a torrid pace this year, further enhancing the value it delivers to its users on a daily basis and opening itself up to new customer segments. BrightHire’s customers know that they have aligned themselves with a product that will continuously evolve and get better and that when they are told something is on the roadmap they can confidently expect to see it soon. - Deliver value to your customers before they are your customers. BrightHire receives a lot of love from its users for delivering on its promise of making them more effective at their jobs, but also, more uniquely, from their not yet users because they make valuable contributions to the the broader Talent Acquisition community. This works because BrightHire genuinely cares about pushing the world of Talent Acquisition forward. BrightHire manages a slack group of hundreds of TA professionals — both customers and non-customers — and consistently puts out high quality practical content. For example, BrightHire has been openly sharing fascinating proprietary interview intelligence data (eg how interviews are conducted and what is discussed and by whom) in an attempt to help TA practitioners and the industry as a whole level up. By not keeping this data private, BrightHire has become a name synonymous with data-driven professionalism in talent acquisition. Companies who produce significant amounts of data as a byproduct of their product’s usage should contribute that data to the broader industry discourse, thereby placing themselves at the forefront of the most interesting conversations taking place in their field. - New category creation happens slowly then quickly. When BrightHire first pioneered the domain of Interview Intelligence, there was a lot of market education to be done. But a few factors have led to an acceleration in momentum that only gets faster with time: (1) After 75 glowing reviews on G2 (4.8 stars) customer acquisition becomes a lot easier. Almost any prospect BrightHire engages with could reach out to a first degree connection and get a reference on the product, and it is always easier to take a peer’s word for it than a vendor’s. (2) One underreported SaaS metric is when your user moves from one company to another, how likely are they to bring your software with them — I would bet BrightHire is in the top 10% of all companies by this metric. As your number of customers grows and you’ve been in market longer you naturally start to see more of this behavior. (3) The market is way more aware of AI now and individual users have felt the magic of AI-powered experiences in their personal lives and crave it in their professional lives. This leads to TA professionals now actively seeking out interview intelligence solutions, and when they do, all roads lead to BrightHire. Here’s to 2024! #talentacquisition #vc
