Through its Home on the Westside program, WFF supports individuals and families with live, work and learn connections to the historic Westside, helping them achieve the dream of homeownership. A cornerstone of this initiative is WFF’s partnership with Operation HOPE, a national nonprofit championing financial literacy and empowerment. Established in 2022 through the generous philanthropic support of Cadence Bank, this partnership is designed to create pathways to economic mobility, foster community stabilization and build an ecosystem of resources to break the cycle of poverty on the historic Westside. As someone who recently moved to the Los Angeles area, I’ve been heartbroken by the devastation caused by the wildfires. It’s been incredible to see the community come together. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy and Tanya Gulliver-Garcia 🏳️🌈 (at CDP) are reliable resources for responding to and supporting communities during natural disasters.

Right now, the focus is on this crisis's humanitarian toll. From a long-term infrastructure management standpoint, this crisis also reminds us of CalTrans's forward-thinking performance standards. CalTrans requires culvert piping materials on its Approved Products List to be fire-retardant and self-extinguishing. However, many common culvert materials and typical pipe rehab liners can burn away at critical fire road crossings, unexpectedly trapping equipment and personnel behind the fire lines when the crossing fails. California firefighters are currently safer than they would otherwise be during this tragic crisis because CalTrans engineers had the foresight and professional ethics to establish minimum performance specifications for their protection which exceed the requirements in any other state. Constant innovations to advance our ability to serve critical public infrastructure needs (such as resin additives to ensure that CIPP liners can meet the requirements of CalTrans Approved Product Listing) have excited me throughout my 30-year career.

Circle K is supporting the American Red Cross to help local communities as they begin to recover from the Los Angeles wildfires. More than 240 Circle K stores in California, Washington and Oregon will offer 40 cents off per gallon on fuel on January 16 from 4 to 7 p.m., donating a portion of the proceeds from the three-hour event to Red Cross relief efforts in California. Supporting LA Fire Victims As a native Californian, watching the devastating fires in Los Angeles has been incredibly hard and completely unfathomable. The loss, the destruction, and the heartbreak are overwhelming. What’s even harder is seeing the situation politicized when what people need most right now is immediate help. The fires have left many families displaced and entire communities in desperate need of support.
