Helping founders and leaders to thrive and make the world a better place | EMCC Senior Practitioner Accredited Coach | Action Learning Facilitator | Coach Supervisor and Trainer | Do Good and Do Well 🤩| Podcaster
How do you prioritise when everything feels urgent and important? This week I’ve been delivering some staff training with claire antrobus. We covered quite a few topics and one of my favourites is around prioritisation. The big question - how do we prioritise when everything feels important and urgent? I mean! Look at that long list of all the things you need to get done next week or that other people need from you! It doesn't help that our brains often prefer us to to deal with the quick, 'time-sensitive' tasks that have immediate consequences if we do - or don't - do them. And we tend to love a deadline. This is called The Mere Urgency Effect and it contributes to you feeling busy. Too busy, in fact, to then do the long term thinking and take the actions that will actually make more impact in the long term. So you have to be very intentional in carving out the time to do the long term thinking. Last year I ran a planning workshop to help with just this thing and I'm going to run it again on Wednesday 6 December from 9.15am to 1.15pm. Tickets are £45 and there’s a 75% discount code to use if that feels too much right now. https://lnkd.in/eXHrSq7s

Employee Engagement & Learning Consultant | Facilitator | Organizational Psychologist | Communication Strategist | 3x Head of Learning & Development
Think of the last training, town hall, offsite, or all-hands you attended. Was the takeaway clear?... If not, we're missing a great opportunity to build alignment and drive clarity in our organizations... It's easy to rush through the content, assume we don't need to be direct with employees, or hope they deduce a takeaway on their own. But, a gathering needs a takeaway to extend its shelf-life and utility. And, it's OK to tell employees what the takeaway should be. We often forget that our employees like to be told what they can do to be successful. Ask yourself: - What should your employees be walking away with? - What's the action item? - What's the headline? What's the takeaway? Name and state the takeaway.

Failing to cross-train is a missed opportunity for operational resilience & cost savings. Here's how you can get better at it: ⃗→ Start with identifying the key areas where cross-training can have the most impact. ⃗→ Develop a cross-training schedule that includes both classroom and hands-on sessions. ⃗→ Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within your team. Empower your team, reduce downtime, and improve productivity. P.S. Don't make it optional. If you need to, you can pay more for the more roles people are fully trained to perform. Found this helpful? This shows once again how important it is to respect the minimum safety conditions both in real life and at work. These conditions must always be applied without exception.
"We've always done it this way," a statement heard often enough, but is it always the right way? The term "best practices" isn't just a catchy phrase but a set of guidelines designed to keep us safe and optimize efficiency. Today's video is a vivid reminder of the unexpected dangers we can face when we deviate from these practices. A couple taking a relaxed stroll, their backs turned to the oncoming traffic. Lost in their conversation, they're completely unaware of the out-of-control car speeding towards them. Miraculously, they're spared being hit, thanks to a quick reaction from one of them. Had they adhered to the best practice of walking facing the traffic where there are no sidewalks, they would have had a clear view of the impending danger, providing them with precious extra seconds to react. But here's the thought-provoking part: How often do we dismiss best practices in our workplaces, thinking we've got a better, faster way, only to realize the inherent risks after it's too late? While improvisation and innovation are essential for growth, it's crucial to differentiate between inventive shortcuts and dangerous detours. Today, let's take a moment to reflect on our habits. Are we adhering to best practices, or are we unknowingly putting ourselves at unnecessary risk? Sometimes, there might not be someone nearby to pull us from harm's way. Remember, best practices exist for a reason. They're the collective wisdom of many who've learned, often the hard way, what works and what doesn't. Ignoring them may seem harmless until the day it's not. At the Safetyman Academy, we place a high emphasis on cultivating this level of awareness through our various online CPD certified training courses. Our programs are designed to remind every worker, manager, and employer that attention to detail is paramount when it comes to safety. We're proud to make our courses available in 60 languages, reaching out to learners worldwide, bridging linguistic barriers, and fostering an environment of global learning. Don't wait – embrace the future of learning today.
