Why is Pride month celebrated? What does Pride stand for? And why June? These are common questions, so let me simplify it for you in 'Smita Simplifies'. Pride month is globally recognized and celebrated in June, though some countries observe it at different times. It all began after the Stonewall riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, USA. Pride marches emerged in various locations to advocate for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community. Throughout June, we dedicate time to amplify their voices and support their rights. For those unfamiliar with the community, here's what you can do: 1) Educate yourself by reading about their experiences and struggles. 2) Expand your social circle to include members of the LGBTQIA+ community. They're incredibly welcoming. 3) Consider becoming an ally. These are just a few starting points. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈 If companies invested in participating in such global equality indices, it would provide evidence of genuine support for LGBTQIA+ rights. Moreover, aligning with international standards could ensure a consistent approach and contribute to the global advancement of LGBTQIA+ rights. Although aligning with national laws might take time, measuring and evaluating companies with international standards would demonstrate severe and sincere support for LGBTQIA+ rights. You don’t need the extra burden by beating yourself up for not being able to do any better.What you do is enough. If you accept the fact that your life is different now you can move on. Be gentle with yourself.
