SDE-1 - Writes thousands of lines of code ✍ ✍ SDE-2 - Reviews thousands of lines of code 🔍 🔍 SDE-3 - Deletes thousands of lines of code ✂️ ✂️ Staff/Principal Engineer - Deletes repositories of code 🗑️ 🗑️ A common misconception in software development is "Writing more code implies more value". However, as you climb up the ladder, you need to think of the cost, additional maintenance, operational efficiency to increase the business value. 🔥 🔥 As you grow in your career, you must think of innovative ways to create maximum impact through minimum code. I strongly feel the advancements in AI will definitely assist senior engineers to tackle this problem. 🚀 🚀 Let me know what are your views on software engineer's code contribution and it's business impact. Boost Your Code Quality: SDE1: "I want to level up my code. Any tips?" Senior Engineer: "Absolutely! Code reviews are key. They're not just about finding bugs; they're about learning from others and refining how you code." SDE1: "So, it's not just about my code?" Senior Engineer: "Exactly! Look at others' reviews too. Ask questions, pick up new tricks, and apply them in your own work." SDE1: "I stress about getting everything right the first time." Senior Engineer: "Don't worry about being perfect. It's about improving over time. That's what counts." SDE1: "How can I make the most of reviews?" Senior Engineer: "Stay curious, Seek feedback, share ideas, and watch your code get better in time." Let's raise the bar together! 🚀💻 #SoftwareEngineering #CareerTips #CodeReviews

As we grow within our software engineering career (SDE 1 → SDE 2 → SDE3), we start taking more and more responsibilities. Here is what I have observed while working at Microsoft: SDE 1: - This is typically the beginning of the software engineering journey - We are responsible for direct contribution to coding tasks like bug fixes, minor feature development Here we are learning & collaborating with senior engineers. SDE 2: - We now start to play an important role in a particular project development - We might be leading a small project or a major component of a larger project - We are also expected to be a major part of code reviews Here we are learning to lead an entire project (or a small team of 3-4 people) toward one engineering project SDE 3: - Now, we are responsible for the entire project or critical component development, from conception to development. - We have to work with other teams to resolve dependencies. - We are part of the architectural design - Help resolve any queries faced by SDE 2 or SDE 1. As we grow within our career as Software Engineer, we acquire new skills and gain a broader understanding of the product and company. What do you think about this? Feel free to add more in the comment section. #growth #career #sde

Technologist, Builder, Problem Solver, Consultant | Ex CTO (Series B startup) | Ex Amazon | Ex Expedia | Ex Juniper
I am hiring to expand my team at Dataflow Group. 🌟 We're on the lookout for hard-core frontend and backend software developers and leaders to join our team! We are hiring for SDE 1, SDE 2, SDE 3, and Senior Architects positions to be a part of our exciting journey in building a world-class product for Dataflow Group's international business. 🚀 Six months ago, we started developing this groundbreaking product, offering a unique opportunity to create a deeply complex product from scratch. The data model we are crafting is one of the most intricate in my experience. Each day has been dedicated to analyzing business requirements and making critical data structure decisions, fostering continuous learning and growth for all of us. 🔍 Our platform has been built entirely from the ground up, tailored to address the real-world challenges we encounter. We are now venturing into developing a blockchain-based credential wallet and leveraging ML models for document processing from global organizations, with much more innovation on the horizon. 💻 We work with Nodejs, expressjs, React, nextJS, and operate on the AWS stack. While prior experience with Nodejs is beneficial, it's not mandatory for these roles. If you are a passionate developer who thrives on challenges and innovation, and if our journey resonates with you, let's connect for a coffee chat. I'm excited to share more details and help you decide if this opportunity is the perfect fit for you. Let's build something incredible together! #softwaredevelopment #hiring #frontend #backend #Nodejs #React #AWS #ML #blockchain

2.12.24 - Dave's Weekly Software Engineering Job Ad Count We’ve got a breakout! 🤓 44,973 new SDE job ads last week, an increase of last week’s big number by 13%, and is also 71% above the rolling 6-wk avg for this number. Product Manager roles were a touch lower than the prior week's high-water mark, landing at 3,203, but 36% above this numbers’ 6-wk rolling avg. Program Manager job ads dropped by 28% from last week's high, landing at 4,274, which is still 22% above this numbers’ 6-wk rolling avg. While this is good news, we're still seeing layoffs, though they seem to be centered on under-performing performing projects and products vs broad-based macro-economic concerns that were driving cost-containment decisions. MAAMA Co’s For the last seven days, the MAAMA companies show the following counts for SDE job ads: • Apple: 0 • Google: 242 • Microsoft: 211 • Amazon/AWS: 405 • Meta: 505 • Total: 1,363 This total is a jump of 54% over the prior week’s total (!), and is 175% above this number’s rolling 6-wk avg (!!). This increase is being driven by Google, with their biggest SDE job ad count since the end of October, and Meta, which went from 2 SDE job ads last week to 505 this week, their highest SDE job ad count since mid-November. The caveat w/Meta is that they have the greatest amount of variability of the MAAMA co’s wrt SDE job ads, so it’s unlikely that this level will be consistently maintained going forward. Still, seeing these two companies kick hiring back into gear coupled with the overall high overall SDE job ad numbers is a tangible sign of the tech sector getting back to hiring software engineers of all stripes. On-site/hybrid/remote trends for this week: • On-site: 23,535 • Hybrid: 8,789 • Remote: 8,436 The On-site and Hybrid counts are a whisker away from last week’s counts, and the Remote count showed a 16% increase (which might be further evidence of employers getting more aggressive in their approach to hiring; we’ll see how this plays out through this year). Companies w/new SDE ads this last week: Talkroute, BoxedUp, Inc. (CEO post), Cyborg Inc., Linden Lab, YemPover Inc, Teal.dev (CEO & Co-Founder post), Z League, ProfessorAI, LiveWire, dataplor, PVComplete, Amperon, Steel Perlot, Hungryroot, Vidrovr, eNGINE, Tivly (COO post), Nuna Inc., GitHub, Chorus Innovations, FOSSA, Discord, Alignable, Cenith Innovations, Humble Bundle, Aha!, BuilderFax, FreeWill, dbt Labs, Cedar, ActBlue, HomeVision, Burtch Works, Open Earth Foundation, Inworld AI, Signos, Wasabi Technologies, murmuration, Skyrocket Ventures, Writer #economy #jobhunting #sdejobs #aijobs #sde #sdet #sre #devops #dataops #mlops #recruiting #layoffs #techrecruiting #startups #hiring

Software Engineering markets have adjusted significantly. Previously, with a 1.5-2 years experience, you would get an interview for SDE-2 role or similar levels. Previously you could literally get an interview call when you want. Things have changed, unless you have a solid personal recommendation inside, no one is willing to give away a SDE 2 role under 3 years of experience, and the hiring has gone super low. Internally most of the companies have slowed down the promotions because of the above reason, they know you cannot get a SDE-2 outside.

Crack your mid to senior FAANG+ SDE, EM behavioural, system design interview in 1 hour | DM me “COACH” | Engineering Manager @ Amazon | Engineering Career Coach
I have never met a successful SDE who knows only coding. You need more than coding, because it is the default expectation. Want to know what it is? Steal it 👇 [1] Critical thinking They ask 5-whys behind any work they do. [2] Quantification They quantify the impact of any project they do. [3] Self-documentation They create the summary of their work by documenting. [4] PPC framework They apply the PPC framework in their workplace. P - People (Know the important people) P - Project (Know the details of your project) C - Customer ( Know your customers - pains, happiness) Steal this framework (link in comments). When you work as hard as these superstars. Spend a few minutes learning what they do to become the next superstar. What other things do you see in successful SDEs in your team? Drop in comments. ~~~ If you enjoyed it, share the post with your network and follow me Chandra Shekhar Joshi for similar content.

The SDE-2/SDE-3 position in some companies is just like SDE-1, so don't be too surprised. Don't make them gods of tech who are SDE-2/SDE-3 in these companies. They are not gods, they are just like you. PS: Even the compensation is just like to SDE-1. #AsheeshTalks #linkedin #SDE2 #SDE3
