Know the difference between “broke” and “broken”. As health equity moves more to the forefront, let’s take a minute and discuss the difference. Some of us have been “broke.” Times are tight. We cut corners to make ends meet. Does your health plan have a good understanding of your population to know how to help them bridge gaps that matter? That’s one piece of it. But have you ever been “broken?” That’s a different beast. That’s when we’ve lost trust, we’ve lost hope, we aren’t making decisions. We are surviving. Life is happening around us. We might make horrible decisions in an effort to feel something. How do you help those that are broken? “Ugh. That’s hard.” “This sounds expensive.” “Where is the ROI?” The thing about being broken - you need connection. How are you connecting with your members? Your patients? What a great article. It is interesting how life science, payers, providers and patients are at an intersection now. In my opinion, data platform is STILL being sold in silos whereas the benefits of tying in the various constituents with data can drive innovation as well as better outcomes.
