3 Mindset Shifts for Hiring a Virtual Assistant! 1. "I can do it all." vs. Strategic delegation: Trust that other people are competent and can do things well if not exactly like you would do them. Giving up control is scary, but your business and your leadership skills are strong enough to navigate the change. 2. Cost vs. Investment: View hiring as an investment and not an expense. Paying good talent is always the right move when they’re handling the operational and administrative tasks that allow you to focus on power moves. 3.Solo vs. Collaborative: Even if you’re only hiring for the short-term, some collaboration is better than no collaboration. Embrace a fresh perspective and new energy of someone equally as excited about your business! If you want to be less stressed and more productive, you could use some help. Change Communication Strategist | Internal Communication Leader | Creative Idea Generator | Accredited Business Communicator | Strategic Communication Management Professional®
I think this post has identified a sore spot among communication professionals. The roles we are being offered are often expecting not just the kitchen sink, but the entire kitchen, living room and garage with compensation that would barely allow us to afford one-bedroom apartment in the suburbs. They're a blueprint for professional burnout. What can we do to educate employers about the VALUE communicators bring to a role when it comes with realistic expectations along with the tools, resources and support we need? #InternalCommunication #StrategicCommunication #SwingCommInsights

Every week, I am approached by recruiters looking to fill #communications manager or director positions. While I'm flattered and VERY happy in my #consulting business and serving fantastic clients, I always respond and willingly refer people in my network seeking new opportunities. Recruiters have a challenging job to do and I love to help. HOWEVER... Many of the #communications job descriptions I see are from technical companies who THINK they know what a Communications Director or Manager role needs to be. My "spidey senses" go up when the job description: 😭 Contains five or more skill sets in one position. The person is expected to do external, internal, social media, investor relations, employee engagement, government affairs, graphic design, multimedia production, etc., and... 🤑 Pays a salary of a junior-level professional while seeking senior-level expertise listed above, and... ⬆ Reports through another function, or worse, multiple functions (like HR *and* Marketing). This relegates communications professionals to a "lesser" and "reactive" role, and minimizes visibility and influence as a strategic advisor to executives. Ideally, Communications should be its own department as it interfaces and supports all functions within a company. What other "red flags" would you add here and why? How can we advise and advocate for better role creation in our profession?

Specialist ≠ Entry-level I was recently asked on my newsletter: "Do you find issues where having specialists serving clients keeps quality limited? Being immersed on strategy is helpful, but I don't want to hire entry-level generalists forever" As you scale up your services and hire specialist roles it's natural in the beginning to hire entry-level folks to fill roles like copy editing, social media coordinating, video editing, etc. But does that mean you'll be on the hamster wheel of hiring entry-level generalists forever? No. Specialist ≠ Entry-level I focus on getting high-level specialists whenever I can. Some specialists MAY have entry-level people supporting them but I focus on quality and talent. That way, it's less stressful for me (or managers/drivers) to manage them and it fits my personality: • I want quality work • I am very anti micro managey • I have high expectations for my team

Freelance Writer | Content Creator | B2B & SaaS Specialist | Content writer @Tech Tebori Your Company has a story to tell and I'm here to tell it in the best way possible.
What's this concept of hiring managers including "ability to multitask and work under pressure” to their job description? To me, this just shows 2 things 1)You'll be heavily stressed and overworked? 2) There's a high chance you'll also be severely underpaid. It makes me happy to see posts advising people to avoid applying for these kinds of jobs because honestly that is the best thing to do. Seeing these red flags is a good reason to think twice before hitting that “apply” button. It’s important to look for jobs where the workload is reasonable and the pay is fair. After all, a happy work life is worth more than just a line on your resume! __________________________________________ Just meeting me for the first time, Hi I'm Olowoyeye Fikunayomi, your go-to B2B SaaS content writer. As the proud owner of our recruiting firm I'm also the accidental writer behind our company newsletter, I have a confession to make. In our latest issue, I mixed up the titles a bit. While I might have an eye for talent, my eyes don't work well with email titles. I said a few choice words and will use this as an opportunity laugh and learn. If you're curious about the real insights (or oversites!), check out our corrected version w/ the link in the comments. Doing my best to have some fun with mistakes. Here's to finding humor in the hiccups and perfections in the process! Growth marketing wannabe here.... #recruiting #executive #marketing #HR #jobs #talent #management #innovation

The amount of times I've seen companies hire crayons and then expecting pencils is mind boggling... As someone who acutely understands the challenges of identifying and hiring the right creative talent, this problem is avoidable. Too often Hiring managers recruit in a VACUUM thinking that all they need are crayons and to their dismay, find out that the content strategy required pencils to execute. What then follows is a desperate attempt by the "crayon" to live up to the expectation of a "pencil", often at the cost of their creative vitality and mental wellbeing. It seems obvious but ask yourself "Why does this role exist? and what creative profile would be best suited at addressing my pain points? Also helpful: ✅ Hire as a team. ✅ Include all direct stakeholders when drafting the job description ✅ Make sure the creative has at least 80% of the direct skills, expertise and experience required. Good luck! #dearcreatives #b2bcontent #b2bmarketing #hiringdesigners #hiringsolutions

As a remote worker, I understand that our potential clients usually have cold feet. It's no big deal to me, actually, because I would also be skeptical about patronizing online brands. Some of the ways I have landed clients despite the trust issues are; ♦️ Pitching myself in the first few conversations - I ensure to answer all questions regarding my work and my skills. Sell yourself, literally. ♦️ Share previous work samples or portfolio - "seeing they say is believing". Showcasing your previous works would enable them build more confidence in your services. ♦️ Research - check out the brand's goals and specialty so you can hit the nail on the head right away. This would facilitate the whole hiring process as you know what they want. ♦️ Being polite - this can't be over-emphasized, honestly. Whether it's a big brand or a small brand, they deserve to be respected. Some clients use your level of politeness to see/know if they could work with you. Hopefully, this brings an end to the struggles faced by creatives online. PS: I offer writing, content creation and virtual assistance services. DM for any of the above! Turning briefs into engaging stories at CreateX • Ex-founder at Twople, Micdrop Community • IIT Kanpur'21
My reaction whenever I see a LinkedIn post about hiring that has words like, - Changemaker - Dynamic individual - Passionate - Visionary - Challenging status quo - Revolutionary - Buzz Buzz Buzz I mean is there any candidate that is going to come & say "I am not any of this"? The necessity of humanising hiring process & providing clarity about what you want from the candidate should be highest priority for anyone looking for their new employee. Your job is to bring someone RIGHT, not someone with good "word-decoding" skills (as long as you're not hiring a Copy Champion XD). #hiring #commentingforbetterreach #interested #buzzwords
