Living with Parkinson’s Disease: Embracing Support and Empowerment😄 Living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a journey filled with unique challenges and triumphs. As a progressive movement disorder affecting nerve cells in the brain and leading to a decline in dopamine levels, PD manifests through various symptoms that can impact daily life. These symptoms, such as tremors, stiffness, balance issues, and speech difficulties, may seem daunting at first, but it's important to remember that there is help and hope available.❤️ If you or a loved one notice any signs of Parkinson’s disease, such as tremors, shuffling gait, or difficulty with mobility, seeking advice from a healthcare professional, like a primary care doctor, is crucial. A timely diagnosis can open up a world of support and resources to help manage the condition effectively. At Trio Rehabilitation & Wellness Solutions in Boerne, TX, individuals with PD have access to specialized therapies like the LSVT Big & Loud® program. This program is designed to empower individuals with PD to improve the speed and quality of their movements and vocal projection. Certified therapists work closely with individuals with PD to provide personalized care and education on the condition, including the stages of PD and what to expect at each phase. By engaging in physical, occupational, and speech therapy, individuals with PD can unlock a range of benefits that enhance their quality of life. Therapists assist individuals in improving flexibility, developing strategies for daily tasks like standing up or getting in and out of chairs, enhancing coordination, and reducing the risk of falls. They also assess any equipment needs, such as weighted utensils, to facilitate independence and comfort in daily activities. 🌞 The support and guidance provided by physical, occupational, and speech therapists play a pivotal role in empowering individuals living with Parkinson’s disease to embrace life to the fullest. Through personalized therapy programs and a holistic approach to care, individuals with PD can navigate the challenges of the condition with resilience and optimism. Living with Parkinson’s disease is not just about managing symptoms—it's about reclaiming control, staying active, and embracing the journey ahead with determination and enthusiasm. Remember, you are not alone on this path. With the right support and resources, individuals with PD can lead fulfilling lives and continue to thrive despite the obstacles they face. Together, let us celebrate the resilience, strength, and courage of those living with Parkinson’s disease and champion a future filled with hope, empowerment, and endless possibilities.🤗 https://lnkd.in/g6cfXCzJ

The suite of benefits your company offers may one day look like this: vision, dental, 401(k) match and psychedelic-assisted therapy for mental health. A small but growing number of companies are already offering that last one. “I’ve experimented with psychedelics myself, and I could see how it could be helpful to people,” says Jorge Yant, founder of Plexis Healthcare Systems, which recently started covering psychedelic-assisted therapy for its employees through Enthea, a benefits startup that contracts with providers to get discounted rates. Some research has shown that psychedelics such as MDMA and psilocybin, and similar substances like ketamine, can be effective in treating depression, anxiety, substance abuse, PTSD and other mental-health conditions. Yant says he thinks that the U.S. healthcare system is too focused on prescribing drugs and that some of his employees could benefit from psychedelic therapy, resulting in lower costs over time and a happier, more productive workforce. He started considering covering alternative therapies after reviewing anonymized summary reports of prescription drug use within the company. “The use of antidepressants among my employees and their families was off the charts,” he says. Currently clients of Enthea can get ketamine-assisted therapy covered. In the coming months, they will be able to get psilocybin if they are based in or willing to fly to Oregon, which legalized the drug for supervised medical use. If MDMA receives Food and Drug Administration approval, it will be added to Enthea’s offerings, the company says. Offering psychedelic benefits to employees is still in its infancy, but it is increasingly seen as a potential way to improve workers’ mental health and stem costs over time. Psychedelics are also going more mainstream. Some Silicon Valley executives have embraced their use, seeking mental or business breakthroughs; for some people, psilocybin has become the answer to a packed social and professional calendar. The tide is starting to shift for companies, too. In 2023, 17% of employers said they were investing in psychedelic-assisted clinical therapy solutions to support their employees’ mental health, according to a survey of more than 500 respondents by NFP, a benefits consulting firm. Sherry Rais, chief executive of Enthea, says she has had more than a dozen employers sign up this year; an additional 50 have signed letters of intent. Among those in talks with Enthea about covering ketamine treatment are several management consulting firms, says Rais. Lucia Huang, CEO of Osmind, a technology platform for mental-health treatment and research, says in order for psychedelic benefits to catch on with employers, the industry needs to show that they work. “The best way to do that is for the benefits providers to be tracking outcomes and be offering the treatments with clinicians that are using evidence-based practices,” she says.
