I am looking forward to the Panel discussion tomorrow night on the future of cities. https://lnkd.in/g6DcQHcT As our global urban population moves to 75% by 2050, it is timely to consider what this means for Cities in Africa and Asia as well as all our Australian Capital Cities. A business as usual approach will only make all these cities less liveable. The need for people-orientated quality outcomes built on greater densities, mixed use, good connectivity, a high quality public realm and local character is one of the formulas for 'Wise Cities' into the future. The discussion on Wednesday should go some way to helping this happen.

This transformative trend holds profound implications for consumer markets, healthcare, and real estate. As Asia-Pacific transitions towards an ageing demographic, it prompts us to explore the long-term opportunities for investors in this space. Must read article for urban planners, nighttime businesses and policy makers. I contributed my analysis on the consumer behavior changes in Tokyo and how the city can develop the nighttime economy in the changing environment. #nighttimeeconomy #nightlife #NTE #Tokyo #JNEA #bloomberg
Nightlife from London and Montreal to Berlin and beyond has been dealt a heavy blow by the pandemic and inflation crisis. In some cases - especially for grassroots venues that are crucial incubators of talent, creativity and community - the threat is existential. But their bigger battle - getting priced out and told to quieten down - has been much longer in the making: "We are getting gentrified more and more out of the city center... and then we are gone," says VibeLab's Lutz Leichsenring. Still, creatives and operators are resilient. With advocacy groups and some local authorities across continents, they're ramping up efforts to safeguard the nighttime economy with more holistic policy from the ground up. My latest for Bloomberg CityLab here: https://lnkd.in/egGTHq6Q Many thanks to Michael Kill Night Time Industries Association, Tak Umezawa, Mathieu Grondin MTL 24/24, Sacha Lord, Beverley Whitrick Music Venue Trust, Danny Beales, Lutz Leichsenring VibeLab and many others for your input. #Nightlife #NighttimeEconomy #London #Berlin #Montreal #Tokyo #Nashville #Sydney #NTE

There are over 600 high streets in London and all of them have unique qualities. In a city which boasts more than 200 different languages amongst its population, we have a wealth of diversity in the capital, which can contribute to exciting and thriving destinations, but not always and not alone. Without a helping hand, too many struggling places with potential are going to continue a steady decline which is all too familiar, with the economic and social disadvantages that go alongside. In this piece for EG, I explore how the GLA’s Property X-Change is looking to partner with the real estate sector to build high street destinations reflecting London’s diversity that work economically and socially for investors and communities alike. #PropertyXChange #HighStreets #SocialValue #London
