SMEs, listen up! 👂 From the start of April 2024, the government will increase the amount of funding that employers who are paying the apprenticeship levy can pass on to other businesses. Apprenticeships can currently be funded by a levy-paying employer transferring up to 25% of their unused levy to a different employer. The government has also announced an additional £60m of new government funding to fully fund apprenticeships in small businesses from 1 April 2024 by paying the full cost of training for anyone up to the age of 21 years. This will remove the need for small employers to meet some of the cost of training and save time and costs for providers like further education colleges who currently need to source funding separately from the government and businesses. I know I bang on about this a lot... but someone has to... What does the future of traditional crafts hold? I regularly see articles about historical sites having to shut due to safety concerns. With a decline in people entering the traditional trades industry what is the solution? College’s not running courses anymore, Advanced craft now isn’t running in Glasgow for this year at least… We need more people coming through The more people coming through the apprenticeship route means more qualified tradespeople caring for our historic landmarks. But how is this achievable when the government is cutting funding and colleges are stopping stonemasonry courses? What do you think we can do to solve this growing issue? This equipment will support NAIT's apprenticeship programs in construction, machining, automotive, and transportation, ensuring that students are trained with the latest technology to meet industry demands. The announcement event was attended by several distinguished guests, including 🇨🇦Minister Randy Boissonnault, 🎓NAIT President and CEO, Laura Jo Gunter , 🏛Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker , NAIT Board Directors, 👷♂️President and CEO of CAREERS: The Next Generation Andy Neigel ,🏗 Dean of the School of Construction and Building Science Matthew L. , and 🚚 Dean of Transportation, Manufacturing, and Automation Stephen McMillan. 👉As Minister Boissonnault emphasized, "A piece of machinery like this is not just for Alberta or Edmonton students. 🚨 Did you hear us on the radio advocating for you this morning ? 🚨'5AA's Breaking at 8 - Civil industry trades omitted from the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List Listen to our CEO Rebecca Pickering as she passionately addresses this issue on 5AA with David Penberthy. It's time to get louder on this issue, let’s raise our voices. The Federal Government has overlooked the backbone of our State—the civil industry does not receive parity funding for its apprentices—missed again from the latest priority occupations list. Civil trades, essential to our infrastructure, have been shockingly excluded. We're left scratching our heads, wondering why our industry isn't on the priority list Apprenticeship support is essential for our industry's future, yet we find ourselves side-lined. With respect, picture framers and gym instructors get support, but not the very industry building the foundations of our nation! 🔗 Don't miss this crucial discussion. Share, comment, and let's unite to ensure the civil industry gets the acknowledgment and support it rightly deserves! 💪 #CivilConstruction #SkillsPriority #InfrastructureMatters #SupportOurIndustry #CCFSA

You can show up to work, do the job, and go home. Or you can bet on yourself. That’s what it means to believe enough in your own talents that you go the extra mile. You put in the extra hour of study. You go above expectations. And you do those as habits. Those are the actions that get noticed in your workplace and beyond. In fact, those are the actions that lead to professional development -- and scholarships. In this case, CUD Maintenance Technicians Mason DeBerry and Kyle Wilson bet on themselves, and the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts bet on them by providing scholarships for their apprenticeship efforts. This is what happens when you excel at your work and you have a vision for your own future. Mason and Kyle are flanked in this image by members of CUD management and members of our Board because we’re betting on them, too. #corevalues #water #utility #professionaldevelopment

“Human greatness is not discovered until it is tested; we must be hardened against fortune by fortune itself“
🌱🚧🌍 GROWTH AND OPPORTUNITY: Planting Seeds and Watering Them 🌱🚧🌍 I had an incredible opportunity today to represent both the North Atlantic States Carpenter Training Fund and Turner Construction, and I wanted to share my experience with all of you. It was a moment that truly emphasized the power of growth and opportunity, and how they can only materialize when we plant seeds and water them. Today, I had the privilege of joining the Chelsea Collaborative and MBK 617 (pre apprenticeships) on a tour of Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. Our goal was to enlighten and inspire pre-apprentices about the various phases of construction they could be involved in, should they choose to pursue a career as union carpenters. As we walked through the hospital, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and possibility in the air. The pre-apprentices were eager to learn and absorb everything they could about the construction industry. It was a beautiful sight to witness their curiosity and passion. During our tour, we discussed the importance of planting seeds by acquiring the necessary skills and knowledge. We emphasized the value of education and training, as these are the seeds that lay the foundation for growth and success. We encouraged the pre-apprentices to seize every opportunity to learn and grow, knowing that their efforts will be rewarded in the future. But planting seeds is just the first step. To ensure growth and opportunity, we must also water these seeds with support and mentorship. We must create an environment where these pre-apprentices can flourish and thrive. That's where organizations like Chelsea Collaborative and MBK617 come in - they provide the necessary resources, guidance, and support to help individuals reach their full potential. The experience at Faulkner Hospital reminded me of the immense power we have to shape the future. By investing in the next generation and empowering them with the tools they need, we are not just building structures, but also creating opportunities for personal and professional growth. So, let's continue to plant seeds of knowledge, skills, and opportunities. Let's water them with support, mentorship, and guidance. Together, we can cultivate an environment where growth and opportunity are nurtured, and where dreams can blossom into reality. #GrowthAndOpportunity #PlantingSeeds #WateringThem #ChelseaCollaborative #MBK617 #ConstructionIndustry #UnionCarpenters #EmpoweringTheNextGeneration
