Today is International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 🌍, and at Save the Family, we're shining a light on the hidden crisis in Chester and across the UK. 🚨 Did you know? In 2023, over 140,000 children in the UK were reported as homeless. 70% of families experiencing homelessness are survivors of domestic abuse. 🏠💔 In Chester alone, there’s been a 30% rise in family homelessness in the last year, with poverty as a leading cause. Poverty isn't just about a lack of resources—it's about a lack of safety, security, and opportunity. Domestic abuse and homelessness often go hand in hand, trapping families in cycles of hardship. We believe every family deserves a safe place to call home. At Save the Family, we provide not just shelter, but support, hope, and a way forward. 💜✨ 👉 Find out more and learn how you can help: https://buff.ly/49xWVhB #EndPoverty #SaveTheFamily #HomelessnessAwareness #DomesticAbuse #FamiliesInNeed #InternationalDayForPovertyEradication #SupportFamilies

We need a joined-up benefits policy. The rise in Local Housing Allowance (LHA) was a crucial step, but without lifting the Benefit Cap – including the two-child limit – we risk pushing more families into homelessness. As a not-for-profit housing organization, we're calling on the Government to take action in their upcoming Child Poverty Strategy. It’s time for a joined-up approach that supports our most vulnerable - read Sue Edmonds (Coulson) blog here - https://bit.ly/3M9yA8s #HousingCrisis #SocialResponsibility #FairBenefits #EndChildPoverty #HousingForAll #UKPolicy #EconomicJustice #londonproperty

The law of unintended consequences is trapping people - at their most vulnerable - in temporary accommodation for years, at great cost to the tax payer and without seemingly any consideration of the long-term negative societal impacts we're storing up for the future. I'm a simple soul - the money used to support those who need it most all comes from one pot; it just happens to have arbitrary departmental gridlines around it. It is time to sort out the dissonance between LHA and the two-child benefit cap and make some sensible decisions about how to effectively use limited funding to best effect. #homelessness #affordablehousing #childpoverty

Expoliting the people in Poverty leads to Modern Slavery Let's Combat it Together! In the harsh realities of our world, the exploitation of people in poverty often paves the way for modern slavery, a pervasive issue that requires our collective attention and action. We must stand united against this insidious practice, recognizing that poverty should never be a breeding ground for exploitation. By fostering awareness, advocating for fair labor practices, and supporting initiatives that empower marginalized communities, we can combat modern slavery together. Let us strive for a world where every individual, regardless of their socio-economic status, is treated with dignity and afforded the basic human rights they deserve. Together, we can break the chains of exploitation and build a future founded on justice, compassion, and equality. Up from 2% in 2019, 4% of our financial counselling clients are experiencing homelessness. Of our clients experiencing homelessness 56% are women - a third of which are affected by family domestic violence. Any number over zero is simply 1 too many. Homelessness Australia, together with Everybody's Home, have created a petition calling for a 10-year National Housing and Homelessness Plan to set an ambition to end homelessness. You can take action and show your support by signing the petition here: https://buff.ly/3OvUX8X #HW2024 hashtag#homelessness hashtag#housinginstabilty hashtag#housinginsecurity hashtag#housingcrisis

Veteran Housing Corp applauds all efforts to build affordable housing but would challenge each and every local, state, and federal housing agency or affordable housing developer to do better in 2024 and beyond. Veteran Housing Corp demands permanent affordability for all projects receiving government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or other incentives! Veteran Housing Corp demands transparency and every local, state, and federal government agency and other stakeholders MUST provide answers to questions about the housing projects that are built with government funding, subsidies, tax credits, or incentives, including the following: 1. How much funding, federal tax credits, or government benefits or incentives from all government sources did the projects receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? 3. What guarantees exist that tenants will not be displaced after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU
Check out Invisible People's new short documentary on Finland's success in solving homelessness. "It’s kind of impossible to rehabilitate from the streets, so a person needs a home so that other stuff can happen after that," Paula Ahonen of the Blue Ribbon Foundation (Sininauhasäätiö-konserni) says, "no one should be on the street. It’s not good for anyone — it’s not good for them and it’s not good for the society. Who benefits from that?"
