Trivallis fully supports the important work of Welsh Refugee Council (WRC) in helping to make Wales a welcoming place for those seeking a new home. Our hope is for our communities to be inclusive and open to everyone, including sanctuary seekers and refugees fleeing conflict and danger in their own countries. We are deeply troubled by the rise of hate and misinformation online that fuels intolerance. The recent social media attacks on the Welsh Refugee Council are deeply upsetting. The WRC provides essential support and advocacy for some of the most vulnerable people in our society. The negativity directed at them is not only unfair but also completely baseless. We encourage everyone to seek out the facts, challenge false information, and recognise the valuable work of organisations like WRC, which reflect Wales' spirit of compassion and humanity.

Misinformation and harmful rhetoric are a constant and very real challenge which can undermine the vital work of refugee support organisations. The recent harassment and threats directed to the Welsh Refugee Council staff, volunteers and the people they work with are deeply troubling and strike at the heart of their vital mission to offer hope, safety, and opportunities to rebuild lives. We urge everyone to fact check sources to make sure the information being shared is credible, and to reject false narratives that serve to divide and harm. Words matter. Sharing misinformation online can have real consequences and can put people seeking safety, and those who support them, at risk. We thank Welsh Government for issuing a fact check on this situation. Refugee organisations play a crucial role in helping refugees integrate into Welsh society, offering them the support they need to thrive and contribute positively to our communities and economy. However, harmful, and divisive narratives can undermine this progress, causing unnecessary distress and posing serious risks to both refugees and the dedicated individuals working to support them. We want to foster humanity by eliminating hostility and prejudices, and we must stand together in solidarity with refugees and the charities that support them to ensure that refugees feel safe and are provided with opportunities to rebuild their lives and enrich our nation. Together, we can make Wales a stronger, more inclusive place for everyone. By continuing to work together across services in these challenging times, we can bring solutions, foster compassion and build unity. The Welsh Refugee Council has provided a detailed explanation about the video in question.
Statement from us about the recent events and spread of online misinformation: "We are concerned by the circulation of misinformation by individuals in positions of influence. We urge everyone to seek the facts before sharing or endorsing inaccurate content, including fake images, doctored videos, and misleading claims. Spreading such material can escalate threats toward our organisation and staff, and seek to divide communities. In 2023, a video from a school project welcoming refugees was released. It was never intended as an advert to encourage migration and was shared to show the positivity of pupils. The Welsh Refugee Council would like to clarify that we did not create or commission the video currently being circulated. While we were not involved in its production, we reshared the post as a positive example of young people championing messages of compassion and inclusion. The video was subsequently taken down due to it being used out of context and the hostile backlash that followed. We take any false or defamatory statements seriously and are working closely with the Police and relevant authorities to address this matter. The Welsh Refugee Council remains unwavering in our mission to support sanctuary seekers and refugees, fostering understanding and promoting inclusion. We are deeply grateful to the individuals and communities who continue to support our work and stand with us in building a more inclusive society.” Andrea Cleaver - CEO Welsh Refugee Council

WRC statement: Together against hate At the Welsh Refugee Council, we are profoundly heartbroken by the recent surge in far-right extremism and the violence directed at sanctuary seekers, refugees, those with migration heritage, and advice workers. Racism, Islamophobia, and hostile language have no place in our society. Amidst these troubling times, we are incredibly proud of how Wales, as a Nation of Sanctuary, has united in standing against those who seek to divide us. Our communities and partner organisations have shown extraordinary solidarity and bravery, making it clear that hatred has no place here. We stand with all those affected—men, women, and children who have already endured so much. The government's condemnation of these attacks is important, but we need more immediate action. We call on funders and the government to invest urgently in vital sanctuary support services, and community building work. We ask our new UK Government, to renounce hostile language, that can often perpetuate click bait headlines and normalise racism. We are committed to creating lasting change and encourage organisations to work with us to combat misinformation and strengthen understanding. If you would like training for your team, or organisation please get in touch. Let’s come together to build a Wales where kindness triumphs over division and every individual finds a true sense of belonging.

World Refugee Day is a powerful reminder of the resilience and courage of millions of people around the globe. Reflecting on this, I never imagined that I would one day become an asylum seeker and refugee myself, though I worked closely with internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the past. I was much more familiar with the terms IDPs than asylum seeker and refugee. Anyway, what really matters in this whole process and journey are the people—their humanity, their support, and their advocacy. Don’t underestimate your small act of support, your voice of advocacy and every kind word can change someone’s life. Nothing is more important than being kind and supportive to those who need it, it makes our life meaningful. Be present. Be the voice of change. Be the advocate. Stand out. Be different. Lead with compassion.

My father was a refugee. He fled communist Poland in the '70s. I grew up listening to stories of resilience and determination, but I would not be here today if it weren't for the fact that my father was given asylum right away and welcomed into the US with open arms. Today is World Refugee Day, and the same cannot be said for the 114 million refugees that are present around the world today. Their stories often go unheard, overshadowed by statistics and stereotypes. This is one of the many reasons why I co-founded The Hybrid Tours. Together with Our World Too, we aim to amplify the voices of those who have experienced displacement firsthand and to rehumanize the refugee narrative. Here's the catch: this is done through travel. At The Hybrid Tours, we don't just visit. We are about connection, education, and impact. Our unique travel experiences allow participants to engage deeply with local communities, learning from those who have lived through displacement. Through our travels, we foster understanding and empathy, bridging the gap between cultures and creating lasting, positive change. And we, of course, have fun while doing so. That's why we're a hybrid - the best of both worlds. Trips like ours are usually only offered by research institutes and universities. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to participate in these transformative experiences. We aim to broaden the impact of our work, making it accessible to all who are willing to listen, learn, and advocate for a better world. On this day, let us honor the resilience of refugees and commit to changing the narrative. Join us in our journey to create a more inclusive and compassionate world through meaningful travel and storytelling. Travel is, after all, one of the keys to making the world a better place. #WorldRefugeeDay #TheHybridTours #OurWorldToo #RefugeeVoices #TravelWithPurpose #ChangeTheNarrative

During the previous U.S. administration of Trump, refugee admissions hit historic lows, leaving countless families separated and lives disrupted. In Kenya alone, many cases remain unresolved for over a decade, with processes halted and families left in limbo. As discussions on refugee resettlement continue, we must focus on cost-effective, humane solutions like Welcome Corps and Family Reunification. These programs empower U.S.-based families to sponsor relatives, reducing the burden on federal resources while fostering social cohesion and economic growth. Streamlining processes, setting clear timelines, and prioritizing efficiency, we can rebuild lives, strengthen communities, and reaffirm the U.S. as a global leader in humanitarian efforts. Now is the time for compassion, innovation, and action. Let’s ensure refugees find the dignity and opportunities they deserve. #RefugeeResettlement #FamilyReunification #WelcomeCorps #HumanitarianEfforts International Refugee Assistance Project Youth Voices Community (YVC)

On this World Refugee Day, let's remember the importance of advocating for those who face unimaginable challenges in their quest for safety and a better life. For many, the option to change their geographic location remains a distant dream. It's crucial to support those who have made the journey but still lack the necessary support systems and acceptance in their new communities. Refugees embody resilience and courage, yet their journey often puts them in peril. As we honour their strength, we must also recognize our collective responsibility to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for them. Advocacy doesn't stop at borders; it continues in our communities, our policies, and our hearts. Let's commit to: Amplifying the voices of those who cannot move. Enhancing support systems for those who have relocated. Championing the safety and rights of those undertaking the perilous journey. Together, we can make a meaningful difference. #WorldRefugeeDay #WithRefugees #AdvocacyMatters #InclusiveCommunities

Together We Stand: Refugee Families Belong Together 💬 🔸 Families First, Always. 🔸 Together, Nothing Is Impossible. 💛 Every family deserves to be together. This #HumanRightsDay, let’s be clear: Refugee rights are human rights. In the face of growing hostility toward refugees and asylum seekers, we must stand firmer than ever in upholding our shared humanity. And it starts with us. Children forced to flee their homes endure unimaginable loss—of safety, stability, and the carefree innocence of childhood. They face not just the trauma of displacement but also the additional challenges of navigating hostility and uncertainty. This is why, in the UK’s asylum centres, play is far more than a pastime—it’s a sanctuary. For children grappling with trauma, play becomes a vital bridge to healing, resilience, and hope. Every child deserves the chance to reclaim their childhood and dream beyond survival. Let’s unite for their right to safety, dignity, and joy. 💛 #RefugeeRights #ChildhoodMatters #HumanRights
