It's Wow Wednesday! Hooray for the happidy-happidy-hump-day. Recently we lost a bid because we prioritized what was best for our clients by giving them the advice they did not want to hear. Let's be honest agency peeps - this is so very hard to do. We knew we were risking losing the fish we had on the hook. They were so deeply dedicated to their event vision (which we agreed was on point) but their champagne taste did not align to their beer budget. We are masters at experience design on every size budget - but this one was going to fail. We showed the clients what they could do exceptionally well within said budget. We also told them the stone cold truth that they were not going to be able to execute their original vision. It was a recipe for failure. So yea, we lost the job, but we earned their trust. Failing at events is so hard to rebound from. It takes years. As powerful as events are to the positive (building reputation and connections through XD), they can be deeply damaging to the negative (false promises, bad food, lighting, music, etc.) Every once in a while a brand gets it right. This this my friends, from where we sit, this is an example of getting it right. Clearly this budget was aligned with the vision. The strategy, the creative...just so smart...the execution...beautiful. First, tremendous thanks to Juanita Chavarro Arias and Event Marketer for highlighting what is widely considered the preeminent brand hospitality event in sports. What's the magic? Hospitality programs exists as one of the most effective tools of brand engagement strategies, because they provide intimate platforms of brand communication and relationship-building with consumers while the brand co-pilots a consumer's experience around one of the consumer's passion points. Hospitality as a marketing platform works best when the equity of the event matches the equity of the brand. Four Months of being a General Manager at Lusaka Golf Club, here are some of the achievements so far: *Membership and Revenue Growth* 1. Increased membership sales by atleast 10% within 3 months. 2. Achieved a retention rate of 80% among existing members. 3. I had to make sure that certain strategies and implementations were followed to increase revenue from all our streams. *Tournaments and Events* 1. We have so far had the privilege of hosting weekly successful fundraisers and corporate golf day tournaments with an average of 120 participants per tournament. 2. Increased event revenue by atleast 40% so far. 3. Developed strategic partnerships with local businesses for event sponsorships. *Golf Operations* With the ongoing loadshedding/management, the club had suffered a significant water loss on the course, the team were very proactive to ensure that the greens did not die, we have since successfully secured a generator big enough to water the greens and resuscitate them back to normal just before the rain season. This has since improved our green fees revenue which is btw our biggest revenue driver. *Marketing* As we all know, marketing in any industry is a key driver to a successful story, we have recently partnered with a marketing agency that has since taken over our digital marketing, we have seen great results in enquiries and in actual new membership growth as well as a vast number of people come to play on our greens as non members. We have also seen a significant increase in followers on our website and social media pages. What are you waiting for? *Staff Motivation and Morale* Now, all this wouldn't be achieved without the hardworking staff, I'm super grateful to have had a team that goes above and beyond. A staff of over 60 people that is dedicated. A huge applause to them. I had to ensure that that the staff morale and motivation was brought back through regular conversations with them, adhering to there problems and engaging them constantly. *Professionally and personally* Alot has been learnt through my journey, and alot more is still to be learnt, a huge thanks to my family, the EXCO team that selected me and saw potential, my teammates and most importantly God.
