Trucking leaders noted positive factors in the market during Q2 and July — while still warning that an inflection point is not yet here. Companies such as P.A.M. Transportation, Schneider and Werner Enterprises observed signs of seasonality and pointed to other encouraging factors during their Q2 earnings calls. #trucking #truckingindustry #freight #transportation

Despite challenges, the US trucking industry shows signs of resilience and potential recovery. The CASS Freight Index indicated some contraction, but month-on-month spending rose by 1.9%, and "inferred rates" saw the narrowest decline in 16 months, climbing to a six-month high. Encouragingly, Derek Leathers, CEO of Werner Enterprises, noted promising market developments and a return to normal inventory levels. Additionally, the ATA's For-Hire Truck Tonnage Index reported a 1.5% year-on-year gain for May, marking its first annual increase in 15 months. These green shoots hint at a more stable and optimistic outlook for the industry. On this #freightfriday I'm thinking about US trucking rates. The last statement in this story aligns with my POV that the most optimal sourcing window likely closed “From a shipper perspective, if you’re looking for cost savings, that time has largely passed.”

Tough operating costs, labor unrest and the evolving less-than-truckload landscape following Yellow Corp.'s collapse are among the top issues projected to capture the attention of the industry this year, Colin Campbell writes. How are these issues stacking up for your fleets? Knight-Swift CEO and President David Jackson noted last week on an earnings call how unpredictability has meant their earnings guidance could be provided for only two quarters, rather than the usual full year. But he also said the company believes "the worst is behind us." But operating pressures, including insurance costs, are still culminating for other businesses as the industry faces a prolonged trough of sluggish demand. We'll be tracking how the market unfolds this year, seeking to piece together these unknowns.

PTAG Trucking News : Trucking Industry Sees Light at the End of the Tunnel as Freight Rates Begin to Rise. Trucking Industry Optimistic as Freight Rates Show Signs of Recovery, Trucking executives in the US are feeling optimistic as freight rates are expected to increase for the first time in nearly two years. According to data from freight marketplace DAT Solutions, the average cost of moving goods by truck is projected to rise by 0.2% year-on-year this month, ending a 27-month streak of declines. The resurgence in demand, approaching pre-pandemic levels, has executives confident in the industry's recovery as stock prices climb. Investors are also responding positively to the news, with the Russell 3000 Trucking Index, which includes companies like JB Hunt Transport Services Inc. and Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., seeing a 9% increase this month, reversing its previous 8% decline in the first half of the year. This renewed optimism suggests that the trucking industry, one of the last sectors facing pandemic-related challenges, may finally be on the path to recovery. Freight rates had taken a hit in early 2022 as consumer behavior shifted away from online shopping toward services and experiences, resulting in excess inventory for retailers and decreased demand for trucking services. 🚛💨🚚🔝⬛️📉📈🗂️📊📦 #PTAG #PTAGnews #Trucking #TruckingNews #ThingsAreLookingUp #Growth #IndustryNews

This article echos what I was referring to in one of my recent posts. #COVID had drastic effects on the industry. It started with a sudden drop in capacity/trucks and increase in demand, it created rates unlike many in the history of trucking. Then, like a rubber band, there was an extreme shift in the opposite direction. Capacity far exceeded demand and lead to rates that dropped to new floors. #capacity #trucking #transportation

Every year brings new things to the #transportation industry. Over the past half decade or so, trucking companies and logistics providers have been facing extreme cost pressures. When spot rates spiked in 2021, reaching all time highs in many areas, the transportation industry added a lot of truck drivers and single-person trucking companies. Today, #trucking is in a #freight recession and has an outsized quantity of supply. Together, these forces have kept rates within the dry van and open-deck freight markets at low levels for the past 18 months. #logisticssolutions
