Promoting a Sustainable & Resilient Future by Serving Significantly, Leveraging Opportunities, & Striving to Improve
Many Tesla drivers, including myself, recently received a 30-day free trial of Tesla’s Supervised Full Self Driving (FSD). While FSD is impressive, it isn't fully self-driving yet, requiring constant supervision, and it does things it shouldn't. Some report only 2% of Tesla drivers chose to pay for FSD after the free trial. FSD adoption rate is impacted by: - its current need for constant supervision, - its lack of transferability when Tesla customers purchase there next Tesla, and - its cost. FSD was $15,000, then $12,000, and now $8,000 to purchase or $99 per month as a subscription service. Even at $8,000, many Tesla owners: - won't keep their cars for 80 months, - fly long distances vs. driving, - finance their Teslas, - don't want the added cost of FSD, making - occasional use of a $99 monthly subscription more attractive. Additionally, Tesla’s website states, “Not all features are available in all markets, and features are subject to change.” I'd never buy FSD without it being transferable. What happens if your Tesla is totaled for any reason? I guess those who purchase FSD forfeit the cost, which is too risky for me. Maybe Tesla could offer a prorated refund if your Tesla is totaled. I might pay $99 for one month of FSD when I take a road trip, but only occasionally. Tesla would likely make more money and have greater utilization, which could help FSD improve faster if they would offer: - FSD transferability and, - additional subscription options, including: -- $1,000 per year -- $99 per month -- $25 per week, and -- $10 per day Drivers like me will likely more readily pay: - $10 for a day trip, - $20 for a weekend, or - $25 for a week-long vacation trip, Vs. $99 a month.
The take up rate of FULL Self Driving after the free trial? Just 2% "I tried it. I liked it. It was a lot better than I expected. Although my expectations were pretty low. It’s not something I’d pay $1,200 per year for." Trial Recipient and Electrek.co Commentator Last month the Carter household recieved the Full Self Driving trial. The verdict? Meh. My wife tried it very briefly at the kids insistence, but it freaked her out and she refused to use it again. For me, I was impressed in a "meh" kind of way. I'm certainly in awe of the engineering work Tesla put in to get FSD to this point, but when I ask the question of "Does It add significant value to my life?", the answer is "Meh". The system makes mistakes around town, and needs focused attention. It's like a diligent 16 year old learnings to drive. It feels like work. That said, on the highway it's much better. The real problem is two fold: 1) I *like* driving my Model 3 Performance 2) It doesn't offer enough over autopilot to spend that sort of money. So, no FSD for us. Have you tried FSD? What where you impressions Let me know in the comments More here https://lnkd.in/ed9HuXGE?
