My cousin is a final year engineering student and we were debating on whether it is better to spend time on coding competitions like ICPC or building projects using JS frameworks. There was lot of resistance in his mind to move from scoped coding setup to picking up new frameworks. I was thinking what resistances do I have. I realised, there is a natural progression in terms of problem solving toughness, monetary rewards, gratification etc L1 : Math / Logic/ Puzzles : This is what I loved as a kid L2 : Coding Competitions : Scoped problem statements which needed one to write code. Purist in me would have said "All I want to do is think, why should I code" L3 : Build Software Products : More moving components, increased scope. More gratification as there is a product to interact with. More valued in the society. But there was resistance moving from writing C++/Python scripts to JS L4 : Managing Tech Teams: Happy being an Individual Contributor than running a team, here you need to manage people not just software. But when you execute something at scale, that you will not be able to do as an IC, the gratification is immense. L5 : Hiring Tech Teams: Now the woes. Hiring people is tougher than managing people! I get jittery, if I am taking the right decision etc L6 : Managing clients and investors : Managing and convincing external teams is tougher than hiring & maintaining your own teams. This is something I don't do actively at AlphaBake. So huge respect for Shahab Rizwan and Krishna Sumanth Alwala for taking care of this while being responsible for delivery and engineering! Hello LinkedIn, I participated in LeetCode Biweekly Contest 138 and was able to solve A, B, and D, and secured a global rank of 3143 out of 36000 participants. I made 4 WAs due to some silly mistakes otherwise I would have got a good rank. I need to avoid them as they are costing me a lot. Intuitions for questions: A. Convert all numbers to strings and for each place find the minimum character and put that in the result string. Fill the remaining places of the result string with '0' and return the string as an integer. B. Iterate the string and for each k-length substring, find the sum of all the characters present in it and take the mod of the sum with 26. Now add ('a'+sum) to your answer string and return it. D. For the health array, just take the ceil division of each element with power. Now, make an array of pairs and insert {damage[i], health[i]} in the array for each index. Now sort the array as (a.first*b.second)>(b.first*a.second). Take care of integer overflow here. Now start with the total damage sum as sum. Now iterate the array and for each index add it.second*sum and do sum-it.first. Return the answer at last.
