#Breakfast with the Family: Lessons in Finance This morning’s breakfast with my kids and parents was more than just a meal—it was a reminder of some key financial principles that we often overlook. As we sat around the table, I noticed how every element of our meal had its own role—just like in finance. The staples like dosa were our ‘#fixed costs,’ essentials that provide stability. The fruits and special sweets were the ‘#investments,’ bringing joy and enhancing our overall experience. And the conversation? That was the ‘#interest,’ growing richer with each passing moment, adding value to our day. Much like managing a balanced portfolio, a well-rounded breakfast is about maintaining the right mix of essentials and extras. It’s about knowing when to save and when to indulge, all while keeping our core values—like health and family—at the forefront. This daily ritual reinforces the importance of balance, not just at the table but in our financial lives too. Just as we carefully plan a nutritious meal, we should plan our finances with intention, ensuring we’re nourishing our future while enjoying the present. So, as you start your day, think about how your breakfast choices reflect your approach to finance. Are you investing wisely in what truly matters?

Coffee shops and property - two of my favourite topics! I happened upon this article today. It's about property really, but the coffee-related headline is eye-catching. The 644 years figure comes from the fact that the average house deposit in the UK now sits at a tidy £62,664. And according to data from Cheddar, the average UK shopper spends £8.10/month in coffee shops. Interesting - I might have guessed more. Hopefully the conclusion most will draw from this isn't to visit coffee shops less often. Good coffee is one of life's small pleasures and, in spite of how busy they often seem, turning a solid profit from a coffee shop isn't a given. In any case, the average life expectancy in the UK is 79, so if they were to rely purely on coffee abstinence, as the article states, it would take the average Gen Z over 8 lifetimes to save up for the their house 😱 Which raises other important questions. A conversation for another day ... #coffeeshops #profitability #GenZ #smallpleasures Cheddar
