We’ve posted about rebuilt parts, both for tool refurbishment and part repair. We’ve also posted pictures that showed parts that we’ve cleaned, side by side. During part cleaning validation, we’ve used 3D laser profilometers to confirm we aren’t destroying the part surface. Most of our experience is with Keyence and Nanovea but there are many laser profilometer systems out there. For us, we need to measure single digit micron surface roughness on some parts, so our GR&R requires us to have 1/10 the measured range resolution. This means we need sub-micron resolution for 1 micron gage studies. Where we have a more coarse surface, e.g. 10’s or 100’s or microns, a 3D laser microscope can be configured with multiple heads. The higher resolution scans take longer to run.
