Great post on investing. Asymmetric insight rides on identifying customer problems or wider context change and asymmetric value-add protects against down cycles to drive returns. #investments #alpha
There are precisely 4 ways to deliver alpha in investing 1) asymmetric information 2) asymmetric insight 3) asymmetric value add 4) asymmetric access The best investors bring multiple asymmetric capabilities to the table, but the best way you earn #4 is by crushing #2-3

Hey friends, having worked on the Sell Side (Equity Research) and Buy Side (Portfolio Manager), I know first hand that finding quality research for investment decisions is a pain. -obscure SEDAR filings -complex insider profiles -numbered companies, directorships -business and financial data -etc. A web of noise at best. Among all the noise, finding data, and not just any data, but the accurate, high quality data that can be reasonably used in an investment decision, is challenging. That's why I'm excited about Investor OS—an all-in-one platform for private investor stock research and portfolio planning. It provides everything from historical data, tracks insider relationships to other companies and financings, to expert insights, all streamlined in one place. Fall 2024 they are launching for small-cap Canadian stocks (a market place which is ripe for disruption) and expanding thereafter. Check out their waitlist to get early access! https://hubs.ly/Q02t-dpX0 Disclosure. I am an investor, and excited to be a user.

Fee-only Investment Adviser | Builds efficient ETF investment portfolios for people and organizations, and writes about it | Publishes the weekly ETF Nerd newsletter
Thematic investing is the latest "in" thing to do. It means investing in stocks that can be grouped according to themes (such as artificial intelligence, weight loss, or battery) rather than sectors of the economy such as technology, health care, or industrial production. It allows cross-sector stock picking. It also allows exchange-traded fund (ETF) sponsors to issue new products - usually coupled with higher expense ratios compared to mainstream index funds. Is it worth investing thematically nevertheless? Does it pay the investor extra return or decrease their risk? Or is it just a way for fund sponsors to milk investors? I'll talk about it in my newsletter this Saturday - sign up here: https://prw.ck.page/

As advocates for the timeliness and relevance of idiosyncratically-constructed, outcome-oriented equity investing - where each publicly-traded portfolio company is individually underwritten with a satisfactory, above-spending 10-year return objective - we were thrilled to hear Tom Janisch, CFA’s remarks on eVestment’s Institutional Trends Quarterly Webcast: [12:19]: “We think the forward looking environment is one of the best environments for active management….It should be a good market for stock pickers. We think looking forward should be a good time for active management.” [41:15] “Stop focusing on the past performance and tell us how you’re going to outperform in the future.” eVestment, A Part of Nasdaq ASSET CONSULTING GROUP Michele Shauf, PhD Russell Elliott
