With the need to implement digital product passports on the horizon, the significant opportunities that DPPs present are clear: a more sustainable, circular textile industry. At the same time, we find that brands are hesitant for a number of reasons, including the tech learning curve, the need for added transparency and outstanding questions on the precise impact of DPPs in the long term. To address those concerns and shed some light on the future of DPPs, our latest Knowledge Hub article dives deeper into the matter, including how brands can prepare for this next iteration of the industry. https://lnkd.in/grmdPrZd

Global Circular Network Digital Product Passport & EPR circular economy Platform via RFiD THREADS® & cloud App. CIRPASS-2 Expert Working Group/ STSC Sustainable Textile Wholesale/ bio-textile developer
We call Circlolink a “game plan” for a circular economy to link stakeholders in industries related to textiles. Our solution is actually much simpler than people realise and goes many steps further than current ideas for DPPs. By using #circulardesign strategies we created opportunities for a holistic flow of materials, blended human centred design with smart tech to help meaningful job creation, and offer a whole systems thinking that delivers DPPs at equitable price points which is essential to engage the SMEs. It’s the SMEs who help drive change and the backbone to an economy so it’s essential we don’t just focus on big brands who are the only ones able to afford DPPs at the moment. Linking the SMEs ensures we don’t skip over the R sector (repair, resell, rent, reuse, redesign, remake) and just achieve the outward looking nice neat #recycling to reach circularity. 🎁🎀 that will only encourage customers to buy more. We look forward to delivering our solution to EU brands as part of the EUs CIRPASS - Digital Product Passport consortium ♻️💚♻️ #digitalpassport #dpp #rfid #smarttech #fashion #circularfashion #fashionrevolution #ethicalfashion #rfid #fashionforgood #circulareconomy

What if simply scanning an item you bought could give you access to that product’s entire lifecycle: materials used, ownership history, recycling or disposal instructions, and more? The European Union is spearheading a sustainability revolution toward a future where this is possible. The European Commission is driving a first-of-its-kind regulatory framework called the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to create transparency around product information and accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Ready for a paradigm shift? Jeff Dossett, chief revenue officer at Impinj, explores this groundbreaking regulation, its impact on retailers, and where RAIN RFID fits into the DPP picture. #RAINRFID #DigitalProductPassport #IoTTechnology

Last month, the European Union adopted the #Eco-design #Sustainable #Products #Regulation (#ESPR), a landmark framework aimed at significantly improving the sustainability of products sold within the #EU #market. This regulation, which excludes only food and medicine, will require manufacturers to make their products more environmentally friendly or face penalties determined by individual member states. A pivotal and challenging component of the #ESPR is the implementation of #digital #product #passports. These #digital #passports will provide comprehensive information on various aspects of the product, including: 1. Material Composition: Details about the materials used in the product, ensuring transparency about their origins and environmental impact. 2. Repair Instructions: Guidance on how to repair the product, promoting a culture of repairability and extending the product's lifecycle. 3. Recycling Information: Instructions on how to recycle the product at the end of its life, aimed at reducing waste and encouraging the circular economy. 4. Environmental Performance: Data on the product's environmental footprint, including energy consumption, carbon emissions, and other relevant metrics. The ESPR represents a significant shift towards a more sustainable and circular economy in the EU. By mandating these requirements, the EU aims to reduce the environmental impact of products, promote resource efficiency, and foster innovation in sustainable design. The digital product passport initiative is particularly noteworthy as it leverages technology to enhance transparency and consumer awareness. By providing detailed information, consumers can make more informed choices, and manufacturers are incentivised to improve the sustainability of their products.

The tool, developed with the expertise of Dr Sushma Kumari from the University of Hull Business School, offers a fair comparison of the carbon footprint of different delivery options. Paul Needler, CEO of iParcelBox, emphasised the importance of this tool, stating, “Consumers will finally have access to a simple tool to minimise emissions associated with parcel deliveries.” Brian Houston Manager at AIC, highlighted the project's potential to significantly lower delivery emissions, contributing to net zero targets. Access to data and the ability to use it are key enablers for innovation and growth in our increasingly data-driven economy. We need new digital solutions to accelerate the green transition. One example is the Digital Product Passport (DPP), which is being developed rapidly in Europe. DPPs will boost sustainable business and the circular economy through the better use and sharing of data in the production chain and throughout the lifecycle of products. https://lnkd.in/gUarg6se
