Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s Post

Team TSA attended #DEFCON32 last week. With over 30,000 people at #DEFCON for hacking and cybersecurity, we were able to connect with so many different people. We had a great time engaging with everybody who stopped by our booth. Attendees were able to try out TSA's Open Architecture X-ray Simulation. Each person got to practice using the X-ray simulator buttons before being given images to screen, similar to those that our officers see each and every day. Of the 250 people who were able to try out our simulators, only 4 people were able to achieve a perfect screening score. This opened up a lot of great conversation around the hard work TSA officers do daily to protect the traveling public. In addition to our booth, Harlan Geer, our Executive Director for Strategy, Policy Coordination, & Innovation participated in an interactive tabletop exercise, where the crowd was able to walk through a security incident and discuss possible outcomes based on a cyber threat scenario at the airport, and then hear how the security experts on the panel would handle the situation. In the end, it was aliens that took over the airport... which led to some fantastic follow-up "what if" questions. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our events!
