Last week, our media team and legal team wrapped our biggest project of the year. The 2024 AILA Conference, this year held at Chicago. The AILA Conference is THE conference in immigration law, offering unparalleled networking and learning opportunities. Tsang & Associates has a long history attending these conferences, but in 2020 Joseph Tsang presented a new challenge. The Task: Attend every immigration law session. Script concise recap videos. Publish videos on Youtube as a same-day report. Thanks to our team and a healthy dose of luck, we pulled it off. But producing 5-8 videos per day was not easy. As a result, our legal team and marketing produced 35 videos. (5-7 sessions per day) The following year Joseph said, “Let’s try this again.”- and we did. Here is our score board 2020 Virtual Conference- 35 AILA session recaps published within 2 weeks. 2021 Virtual Conference- 32 Videos (This time, we tried Chinese and Spanish videos too) 2022 NYC & LA- 31 Videos (Our first same-day travel vlogs) 2023 Florida- 28 Total Videos 2024 Chicago- 44 Total Videos Every year taught us something new and unexpected.- These challenges were absolutely worth it. It taught us about resilience, team work, and the value of challenging yourself. This spirit of challenge was passed down from our leadership at Tsang & Associates. The other day, I went to a local government office to file some business documents. My business lawyer gave me my documents with explicit instructions. I went to the counter and gave the clerk my documents. He immediately chastised me for bringing the documents from home and not filling them out there in the office. His system then made him redraft the entire thing. He then took a look at what I was filing and told me it was overkill. "You don't need this - the rules don't require this in your case." I immediately felt a moment of panic. I am not a business lawyer and he said what he said with such conviction. But then I decided to trust the process and my lawyer. I told the clerk to proceed. I also gathered myself, and remembered that I am a lawyer and can figure this out on my own. I looked up the procedures on my phone and pretty quickly realized the clerk was dead wrong. The clerk didn't know what the heck he was talking about. I also knew that if I explained why he was wrong, he probably would not even understand what I was saying. The distinction was clear to me but may not be clear to someone who has not been trained in how to interpret rules. If I listened to the clerk my business would be totally out of compliance. Would the clerk vouch for me if I was busted? Of course not. I see this happening all the time in immigration, so here is my advice to immigrants: If someone who is not a lawyer (USCIS customer service, friend) disputes the advice you are getting from your lawyer, try to trust the legal process. Immigration is based on laws and rules, and there are nuances and complexities involved here that can go right over the heads of those who aren't legally trained. I get it. I felt that moment of panic. But try to get back to that place where you trust your legal counsel and the legal process. If you don't trust your lawyer, get a second opinion from another lawyer. #immigration #immigrationlaw #globalmobility

Another happy client! Being an immigration lawyer can be a stressful gig, with client management being a major component of the role that you don't get educated about in University. Stress, anxiety, frustration, all these negative emotions can overcome your clients. It's up to you to make them feel at ease, work together towards a common goal, and set their expectations.
