In this article, we delve into a case study of a course module designed to bolster data analysis skills taking advantage of #opendata for Master of Public Administration students in the University at Albany Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy and assess the #effectiveness of the materials and approach of this module. Findings indicate that the module is effective in facilitating learning of technical skills of #datavisualization and, to a lesser extent, of the understanding of data nature and limitations. Students also identified a clearly structured class format with an appropriate instructional tools and materials as key enabling factors for their learning and emphasized the need for individualized assistance to maintain motivation. 50 first individuals accessing it can get a free copy through this link: https://lnkd.in/ggBp6NZG.

Proud of my team for putting together the first-ever State of the Field: Data Science and Data Literacy Education in K–12 report! Through months of data compilation and analysis, we learned that: ● Only 3% of K–12 students were exposed to data science in 2022–23. ● 1 in 4 jobs requires data science skills. We need to continue our efforts to ensure every student has access to data science education and we need more investments in the field. Read the report and share it with your community! https://bit.ly/stateofdse #DS4Everyone #FutureReady #StateofTheField
It's been a few years since a silly Freakonomics podcast helped spur a movement for #DataScience and #DataLiteracy education. DS4E's first-ever State of the Field report, authored by our best-in-class-policy-researcher Sean Sukol, is now officially out: https://bit.ly/stateofdse 💡 If you're in the dark about the need for data science education in K-12, start with the foreword by Former White House U.S. Chief Data Scientist Dominique Duval-Diop, PhD 🧪 Researchers and advocates: we're up to 29 states that have taken an official action for #DataScience and #DataLiteracy education 🏫 Case studies spotlight innovative state-level work in Virginia, Utah, Ohio, and Washington, and exemplar schools in New Mexico and North Carolina. 🤖 AI people, please turn directly to page 39, and then tell us what you mean when you say “we need to make sure we're ready for AI." We want to know what you mean a bit more precisely 😉 Huge thank you to Code.org for their assistance gathering data from state education agencies and to Linda Gist, our fantastic Undergraduate Research Assistant. I'm also grateful to the many education leaders, educators, and Content Partner Network organizations who provided data to help us understand the landscape of K-12 student enrollment in data science courses. On this year's #CSEdWeek, this is just another reminder of how much innovation is under the hood in K12, how many awesome people are making change as we broaden technology education, and how much more work we need to do. Read the report and share it with your community! #CSEdWeek #DS4Everyone #FutureReady #StateofTheField
