Did you know... ♻ That >60 M tonnes of electronic waste is produced every year? Out of which only 22% are recycled? The same amount of e-waste – including circuit boards, wires as well as the metal, glass, and plastics that encase electronic components–ended up in landfills. ➡ It's about time that all of us – manufacturers, consumers, governments – acknowledge the worldwide electronic waste crisis and work out how to better tackle this ever-growing challenge! Today at LogiPharma 2024 in Lyon, Julian Wann presented the ambitious sustainability goals of AstraZeneca, and the importance of putting high expectations on their partners in the supply chain. Anita Leposa explained how we at TSS support these important mission with a circular hardware solution, where reusable components can decrease the carbon footprint by almost #90% compared to disposable alternatives. If you happen to be on-site at LogiPharma in #Lyon, stop by our booth #122 to discuss how we can help you reach your sustainability goals. See you there!

Did you know that Dry Molded Fiber technology is making a significant impact in reducing the use of plastic in medicine packaging? Invented by the Swedish research and development company PulPac, this innovative technology not only minimizes CO2 emissions, leaving up to an 80% lower footprint than plastic, but also requires minimal water usage. 💧 At Bayer, we are proud to have joined the Blister Pack Collective of PulPac and PA Consulting last year. This initiative aims to accelerate progress in reducing single-use plastics in over-the-counter, prescription drugs, nutraceuticals, and confectionery items. This collaboration will help reduce our carbon footprint in the future and aligns with our commitment to transform 100% of our Consumer Health packaging to be recycle-ready or reusable by 2030. 🌱🌍 #SustainablePackaging #DryMoldedFiber #CircularEconomy Elena Aleksandrova

Just read an interesting article from Packaging Strategies about implementing sustainability in secondary packaging - what about primary packaging? If you're developing a novel therapeutic or conducting a technology transfer & reworking documentation of an existing product that is moisture sensitive, think about building sustainability into your primary packaging presentation Implementing a Multiform CSF® Canister can substantially reduce plastic consumption in pharma packaging, an industry sector known for its high plastic usage. The data on CSF demonstrates not only equivalency, but a stronger performance related to moisture vapor adsorption compared to similarly sized canisters, while significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Lead from the front! Article: https://lnkd.in/eSPmYuSK

Today we had an impactful session at Climate Smart Healthcare Conference. Todays take home: the non-circular nature of plastics in pharmaceutical applications adds layers of complexity to the overarching matrix of sustainability and waste management within the industry. Worse still African countries are but pawns in the game, for as long us we import pharmaceuticals there is little we can do to mitigate plastics problems in healthcare. #GlobalGreenandHealthyHospitals #sustainability

At #Blockeuticals, our mission is to bring unprecedented transparency and traceability to the pharmaceutical supply chain. But did you know that our innovative track and trace solutions, trackrB and trackrB-Hive, also have a positive impact on the environment? The pharmaceutical industry's supply chain is notoriously complex, with medicines often traveling thousands of miles before reaching their final destination. This long and convoluted journey not only increases the risk of counterfeiting and tampering but also contributes to a significant carbon footprint due to excessive transportation and inefficient logistics. Our solutions aim to streamline this process, providing real-time visibility into the movement of every single product. By optimizing supply chain operations and minimizing unnecessary transportation, we're helping our partners reduce their carbon emissions and environmental impact. But that's not all. Our track and trace technology also plays a crucial role in combating drug wastage. According to estimates, approximately $5 billion worth of medicines are wasted every year due to inefficient supply chain management, temperature control issues, and other logistical challenges. By ensuring that every product is accounted for and handled appropriately, we're helping to reduce this staggering waste, conserving valuable resources and minimizing the industry's environmental footprint. At #Blockceuticals, we understand that environmental sustainability is not just a buzzword; it's a responsibility we all share. That's why we're committed to continuously improving our solutions and exploring new ways to minimize our ecological impact. Join us in this journey towards a greener, more sustainable pharmaceutical industry. Together, we can pave the way for a future where transparency, traceability, and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Because at the end of the day, a healthy planet is the foundation for healthy lives – and that's what we're all about. #SupplyChainTransparency, #Traceability, #GreenPharmaceuticalIndustry, #EnvironmentalStewardship, #SustainableSupplyChain, #ZeroWaste, #NetZero, #ClimateAction, #EcoFriendly, #GreenTech

On today's #WorldEnvironmentDay, I'd like to highlight our SCHOTT Pharma Ecodesign Guideline, an important step in ensuring that our drug containment solutions and delivery systems are safe for patients and sustainable for the planet. Recognizing that 80% of a product's environmental impact is determined at the design stage, we integrate environmental considerations into our development process. Key aspects of our policy include choosing the right materials, reducing packaging waste, and increasing the efficiency of processes, such as sterilization and transportation. By consolidating stakeholder insights, our policy provides our development teams with state-of-the-art ecodesign knowledge, complemented by regular training. With these measures, we are committed to leading the way in eco-friendly #innovation. Let's work together to create products that meet the highest safety and #sustainability standards. #BecauseHumanHealthMatters

There’s no simple answer to the question of how to make medicines packaging sustainable. As much as pharma companies want to reduce plastics, it is not an easy thing to achieve. In this in-depth interview, CIRCPACK® analyst and circular packaging expert, Filipe Vieira de Castro, shares expert insight in this exclusive Q&A. “The best thing we can all do is put effort into finding common ground between systems, which comes down to better understanding the complexities between them.” Read the interview here: https://ow.ly/CUlN50RsATH. #PharmaIndustry #PlasticReduction #SustainabilityMatters #HealthcarePackaging
