One of the most important things to consider when organizing a conference, is that nurses need content relevant to their practice. Not only does this conference has a designated nurse track, but content for student nurses, nurse leaders and international participants. Looking forward to meeting so many nurses from the Middle East and Gulf region, and share similarities, challenges in our practice and share ideas to improve patient care. Ontario needs nurses and has been actively recruiting experienced nurses to immigrate through the Ontario Provincial Nominee Program. But once in Ontario, internationally-educated nurses find it difficult to work as a nurse. A new World Education Services survey reveals that process barriers have inhibited people from registration. Costs of registration, an unclear and/or long timeline, and recent practice requirements are common challenges. This suggests a clear need to reduce complexity so it is easier and faster for internationally-educated nurses to register and begin working in the province.
New findings! A WES survey of internationally educated #nurses (IENs) not working as nurses in #Ontario shows that, among those who are employed, 19% are in roles that make no use of their nursing skills or experience. Our new #CountingOnCare report highlights key findings and policy implications around the underemployment of #internationally educated nurses. A recent study found that 57% of nurses report feeling misunderstood and unappreciated in the US. It's not surprising- the current healthcare climate of "do more with less" reduces the nursing role to a list of tasks and skills. And, underlying each nurses' experience is their individual perception of what it means to feel valued. How would you know if you felt valued? I think it looks different for each nurse. Feeling underappreciated as a nurse? Here's a short fun quiz to uncover an area that might be contributing to that feeling, and what you can do about it. https://lnkd.in/gF2Yubez #nurse #nurselife #nursesonlinkedin #nursingstudent #humanfirst
