IEEE IRDS Roadmap Edition 2023 has been published and is available on-line As a member of the IEEE IRDS Roadmap team chapter YE (Yield Enhancemenet) I am pleased to announce that the IRDS Roadmap edition 2023 has now been fully published and is available on the IRDS website. Read the IRDS team's latest assessment of technology trends in semiconductor manufacturing for the next 15 years and the challenges that have been identified. Dive into the YE-AMC team's new work on modelling the transition from AMC (Airborne Molecular Contamination) to SMC (Surface Molecular Contamination) based on defect density limits from the MM (Moore More) team. The models introduce and explain the dose approach for the assessment of AMC for the first time (https://lnkd.in/eFZ44JNy). The YE team will continue this work - also in the other areas - in order to identify potential risks in the area of technology development in semiconductor manufacturing and - in such cases - to initiate the search for solutions. With this in mind, work on the 2024 edition of the IRDS is already well underway and will complement the state of knowledge of the current 2023 edition.

💡 I am thrilled to mention that our paper on "Low-Complexity Detection Using Channel Dimensionality Reduction in 6G Uplink Systems" has been accepted for the IEEE 99th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) 2024. 1️⃣ For a massive MIMO uplink system, our low-complexity signal detection scheme presents a dimensionally-reduced channel matrix and a dimensionally-reduced received signal vector, obtained through multiplication by a sign-based reduction matrix. This breakthrough approach achieves a computational complexity independent of the number of base station antennas in massive and ultra-massive MIMO. 2️⃣ Simulation results show promising outcomes. Albeit with a slight compromise in the BER performance, the complexity achieved is less than 1% of the existing detection schemes. As all previous detection schemes have had computational complexity as a function of the number of BS antennas, the complexity being independent of BS antennas is a significant result, leading towards an extremely low-complexity detection in the upcoming age of ultra-massive MIMO in 6G.
