The spectacular glulam timber roof soaring above the new Sydney Fish Market stands as the project’s defining feature, comprising 594 individual glulam beams with a total volume exceeding 1600 cubic metres. Through XCEL, TTW’s Construction Engineering team was contracted to undertake extensive stability assessments of the structure during the construction phase, and provide temporary works engineering, as well as installation sequencing and methodology to support the complex construction process. A multitude of considerations had to be made, such as existing structure constraints, minimising temporary loads on permanent timber and concrete structures, managing the availability of proprietary props, and optimising installation and removal sequences amongst site logistics. Collaborating closely with TTW’s Digital Engineering team, an agile approach was adopted, enabling rapid adjustments to the sequencing to meet evolving site conditions. Once completed, the new Sydney Fish Market will become a globally iconic destination, anticipated to welcome over six million visitors annually. This remarkable project is a testament to the expertise and collaboration of Multiplex, Xcel Group Of Companies, Coates and TTW, whose collective efforts have brought this ambitious vision to life. The new Sydney Fish Market project is proudly funded by the NSW Government.
