THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Brought up in a religion that doesn’t celebrate Christmas, festive traditions weren't part of my childhood. ☃️ We didn’t embrace the sparkly Christmas wonderland in the way most families did. . What you’ve never had, you don’t miss. And yet, I vividly remember my Primary 4 teacher – Miss Tait – asking us to write a Santa poem. In naive honesty, I expressed my disbelief, only to be ridiculed by my classmates, led by the teacher! 🎅 . And I dreaded the post-holiday “What did you get?” conversations. 🎁 . As an adult, while no longer constrained by religion, I still experience the season in a detached manner – observing the abundance, perfectionism and superficiality almost from afar. I’m aware of the financial struggles faced by many families, especially in a cost-of-living crisis. The societal and peer pressure adds stress, as I experienced firsthand as a child. And feelings of loneliness and grief also seem amplified at this time of year. 💔  . Working with organisations committed to social impact is a privilege, and I’m especially enjoying partnering with Whiteinch and Scotstoun Housing Association Limited to articulate their purpose and goals. . This video about their community Christmas event demonstrates the power of community and togetherness, bonding families and offering cheer amidst hardship. It embodies: 👨👩👧👦 Building community 🎆 Bringing joy 🤝 Supporting those in need . I’m grateful to work with change-makers determined to make the world kinder. . As the year comes to a close, I hope for compassion beyond materialism this season. ✨ . Let’s walk into 2024 choosing purpose over pressures. 💫 .
