I really suffered when I first started in business. I had no access to the right education or tools. For context: I’m really enjoying running a ‘lifestyle’ business. I love: - My work - My clients - And the freedom they both give me But - I’m an entrepreneur and I’m not done yet… And I’ve identified a massive problem. (Which you’ve probably seen me talk about from time to time). At the moment, there’s a huge disparity over the number of people in business and the availability of good, accessible finance education. ESPECIALLY for young people. I don’t want people to have to suffer as I did when I started out: - I didn’t know the answer to everything - I got things wrong - I had to fight really hard to save the business, and my health And I was a qualified finance professional… so I can just imagine how hard it is for everyone else. So I want to address the problem. I’m working on creating something that provides finance support and education at a much earlier stage of the business lifecycle. Another Start-Up Finance session delivered.. 🤓 I had a great time with Enterprising Futures at LSBU yesterday. Hopefully the audience enjoyed it as much as I did, having me bounce around impressing upon them the importance of understanding your finances in running a business. ✴ I think it is important at every stage, and at the beginning, you don't need to know everything, much of it feels so hypothetical but it can really shape the way you think about your business going forward. ✴ I think the way to do it, is take bite size chunks, apply what is relevant and come back or learn more later, but do keep on learning. I hear so many business owners wish they knew things earlier on, but you don't know what you don't know, so it's better to learn it and have it in your back pocket. ✴ The compound effect of financial knowledge to your business cannot be underestimated. It enables you to do more of the "good stuff" and less of the "bad stuff". Take early action and benefit from it. ✴ Just learning the value of forecasting and managing your cash, understanding your pricing strategies and looking after your costs are critical. It really can be make or break. ❗ Learning the language of finance is imperative in running a good business. Better start early than make mistakes and learn to rectify later, some things you cannot undo. I work with clients who have mature businesses but still haven't learned this and have missed out of the benefits along the way, sadly, but better late than never at least. ⭐ I applaud those who took the time to come and learn with me yesterday - it's why I do love doing what I do now. 💰 Preparing the one on funding for next week now.....
