Tuesday Health is proud to highlight a recent study showing that telehealth can effectively deliver early palliative care to patients with advanced lung cancer. Conducted across 22 cancer centers, this trial confirms that telehealth is equivalent to in-person visits in improving quality of life and managing symptoms. Notably, the study revealed: 💙 Significant quality of life improvements for patients 😊 Equivalence in depression and anxiety management 👥 Potential for greater accessibility and broader dissemination of palliative care This is a major step forward in making supportive care more accessible to patients, regardless of location. We are thrilled to share that our Head of Clinical Delivery, Dr. Mihir M. Kamdar, MD, along with our Clinical Advisory Board Co-Chairs, Dr. Vicki Jackson and Dr. Areej El-Jawahri, were co-investigators on a groundbreaking study recently presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting in Chicago. The study, titled "Comparative Effectiveness of Early Palliative Care Delivered via Telehealth Versus In-Person for Patients with Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Randomized Trial," highlights the significant potential of telehealth in delivering high-quality, early palliative care. Key findings from this large-scale study demonstrate that telehealth can effectively provide palliative care, equivalent to in-person visits, in improving the quality of life for patients with advanced NSCLC. This research underscores the importance of innovative care delivery models, particularly in enhancing access and continuity of care for seriously ill patients. At Tuesday Health, we are committed to transforming serious illness and end-of-life care through innovative, evidence-based approaches and collaborative efforts with healthcare leaders. We are proud to be at the forefront of this essential work, ensuring that patients receive compassionate, comprehensive, and accessible care. 🔗 Read more about this important research and how it aligns with our mission to support seriously ill patients and their caregivers here: https://hubs.la/Q02znq800 #PalliativeCare #Telehealth #HealthcareInnovation #TuesdayHealth #QualityOfLife #PatientCare

In the latest issue of the Journal of Clinical Pathways, Christine Wilson, MA, MS, and colleagues describe how patients within three diverse communities who are living with cancer understand and make shared decisions. This is the third installment of a three-part series on decision support tools and shared decision-making. "As patients progress in their illness journey, they become accomplished citizens in the “kingdom of the sick,” more knowledgeable about their conditions, and skilled in navigating the health care system. As a result, they are better able to become true partners in the decision-making process," wrote the authors. The Liberty allows patients to perform and upload the results of blood tests at home, reducing the amount of time they have to spend in hospital. For patients, this could drastically change their care experience. Reducing the time they have to spend in hospital could reduce stress, and travel burdens, and give them a strong sense of agency and control throughout their treatment. For conditions as life-changing as cancer, this could be revolutionary. It could help reduce the burden on health systems. Allowing patients to perform blood tests at home would free up clinicians, speeding up treatment and enabling them to focus on more valuable tasks. This could be particularly powerful for overstretched systems like the UK and the US. #Oncology #PatientCare #Healthcare #HomeTesting

Public Health Professionals: Help raise colorectal cancer screening rates for adults—including those living in rural areas. Colorectal cancer screenings can save lives. Provider shortages and lack of transportation to specialists can make it difficult for patients who live in rural areas to get screenings. Encourage discussions between rural health care providers and their patients about alternative options for testing. There are several colorectal cancer screening options, including some that patients can do at home, that can be used to find polyps or colorectal cancer. "Having health care coverage is not the same thing as having access. Too often we're seeing that many of the insurance products are going out there with narrow network products that have less access to academic medical centers, facilities that are certified by Commission on Cancer, NCI centers and high-volume hospitals. And in cancer, that makes a difference." -Harlan Levine At the Clinical Pathways Congress + Cancer Care Business Exchange, Harlan Levine, MD, shared his thoughts on the benefits of collaboration between community cancer centers and academic medical centers, including allowing for more access to patient care. Navigating the Choice of Cancer Treatment Facilities: Your Essential Guide Choosing the right cancer treatment facility is a critical step in your cancer journey. Here's how to make an informed decision: 1. Specialized Care: Look for facilities with expertise in treating your specific type of cancer. Specialized centers often have the latest technology and treatment options. 2. Accreditation and Reputation: Ensure the facility is accredited by reputable organizations like the Commission on Cancer (CoC) or the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN). Research patient reviews and testimonials to gauge the facility's reputation. 3. Multidisciplinary Team: A comprehensive cancer center will have a team of specialists, including oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, and support staff, who collaborate to provide personalized care. 4. Support Services: Check if the facility offers essential support services such as psychological counseling, nutritional advice, and pain management. These services can significantly enhance your quality of life during treatment. 5. Clinical Trials and Research: Leading facilities often participate in clinical trials, providing access to cutting-edge treatments and therapies not widely available. Making the right choice can improve outcomes and ease the treatment process. At Fighting Cancer Today, we're dedicated to supporting you every step of the way. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and it is important to acknowledge the significant impact that cancer screening can have on the patient's overall health. Primary healthcare is the level to which patients are screened for different types of cancer, a preventative measure that can drastically change the outcome for some people. In Peterborough, there is a growing number of unattached/orphaned patients who struggle to gain entrance to the healthcare system. Without the support of primary healthcare, matters such as cancer screening may not be considered and can lead to poorer health outcomes. This is why primary healthcare investments require further investments, including interprofessional healthcare providers and family physicians. With a thriving primary healthcare system, we will have a thriving and healthy community. As a reminder, those who are unattached in the Peterborough community can book an appointment with the PFHT Health Clinic and schedule any cancer screening. #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth #CancerScreening #ColorectalCancer #PrimaryHealthCare #primaryCare #FamilyMedicine
