“Please don’t watch and hope vacancy gets better in your town or city centre…. be part of the solution!” – Iain Nicholson MIPM There are real, actionable solutions to address high street vacancies. Iain Nicholson MIPM shared today how one common issue—lease assignments—can keep units empty. When tenants leave before their lease ends, they’re often still responsible for the rent, leaving properties stuck in limbo , often for years. This affects 1-2 units in many places Iain has worked with, but there are ways to resolve this. When previous tenants go into administration, the challenge can be even greater. By understanding the issue in both cases and working together, communities can help unlock these spaces and revitalise their local areas.💕 Check out Iain’s posts for more on the practical steps we can take to drive positive change! His one from today in the comments 👇 #highstreetpositives #highstreet #community

It's interesting how my best ideas often come to me when I'm relaxed in a comfortable environment, yet I struggle to share them in planning meetings and forums due to my reserved personality. I'm increasingly concerned about town planners missing out on new employment opportunities. I believe that SACPLAN, planning schools, and planning departments should collaborate with the Department of Labour to influence job opportunities for town planners from a strategic perspective. I strongly disagree with the notion that the Department of Rural Development, COGTA, Human Settlements, and M&E should be solely responsible for addressing issues within the town planning profession. It's crucial for the Department of Labour to be included in planning conferences, forums, and workshops to help SACPLAN create pathways for professional advancement for planners with diverse specializations. Discussing employment creation for town planners without involving the department of Labour is a missed opportunity. I refuse to see young town planners unemployed and not being advocated for#Townplanning #SACLAN #UemploymentmustFall #TownPlannersWinning.

According to the Royal Town Planning Institute, we're facing a shortfall of 15,000 planners by 2030, with only 2,000 graduates entering the field each year. 🚧 Many of our top town planners are trading the UK's grey skies for the sunshine and opportunities of Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. 🌏 With 80% of local authorities reporting planner shortages, development projects are stalling, further intensifying the UK's housing crisis. 🏠 The economic implications of this are significant—from housing availability to critical infrastructure improvements—ultimately impacting the quality of life for our communities. GKR International - Real Estate Talent Specialists is taking action by partnering with two of the UK's largest employers of town planners to attract talent back home. Our goal is to develop an environment where skilled planners can thrive and contribute to the vital development projects our country desperately needs. Are you an employer or candidate interested in joining this mission? 🤝 Get in touch with Julian Murray, Director at GKR to see how we can work together to address this planning crisis and shape a brighter future for the UK. 🌤️ Tel: 0207 048 3304 Email: jobs@gkrinternational.com #UrbanDevelopment #UKPlanning #TownPlanning #TalentAttraction #Construction #BuiltEnvironment
