This day also marks Orange Shirt Day, a time to raise awareness about the lasting intergenerational impacts these institutions have had on individuals, families, and entire communities. At AMS, we recognize that reconciliation is essential to the well-being of the communities we serve in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. True reconciliation means not only reflecting on the past but also taking meaningful steps toward healing. We remain committed to providing compassionate, accessible healthcare to northern communities, acknowledging the historical trauma, and supporting the path forward. Structural racism is embedded in every aspect of society and contributes to the health disparities that persist today. If we are to create a world where health is truly for everyone, we must embrace new ways of learning that challenge the status quo. An important step in challenging structural racism is designing research studies that authentically incorporate community partners' expertise and lived experience. When community collaboration is embedded throughout the research process, findings are more relevant and better positioned to inform changes that directly address community needs. A panel by national program offices of the RWJF will feature unique research collaborations, including:   ◉ Nebraska’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) service locations to develop a community-based screening program for colorectal cancer. ◉ The first US municipality where both city and county governments jointly signed reparations resolutions in Buncombe County, NC. ◉ A community-based organization and university team up to support fathers experiencing homelessness in Atlanta, GA.   Cross-sector research collaboration teams from Evidence for Action (E4A), Policies for Action, and Systems for Action will share their insights and findings about promoting health equity in their local communities.   Panelists: ➤ Jungyoon Kim | E4A ➤ tamarie a. The Minnesota Gerontological Society has our 49th Annual Conference on April 23 (virtual) and April 24 (in-person). CALL FOR PRESENTERS! Do you have a session to share or know someone who does? The theme of the conference is "THE FUTURE IS AGE-FRIENDLY." We will consider all presentations with gerontology-related content but are especially interested in presentations that align with one, or more, of the nine domains listed in the Age-Friendly Minnesota Framework. That's why at the foundation, we support work that aligns systems with community priorities.  In this month's newsletter, we highlight some of the innovative work happening to center community voices. Here's what you'll find inside this month's Intersections:  ➡️Our grantee partners San Joaquin Valley Health Fund, The Center at Sierra Health Foundation, and Public Health Institute are creating accessible spaces for people with lived expertise to have a seat at the table.  ➡️A multi-sector collaboration, Safety & Healing in Networks of Equity (SHINE), is creating safer, more supportive communities that can drive systemic change in domestic violence prevention and response.  ➡️Our partners Onside Partners and ThinkForward Strategies conducted research on how public health agencies are actively using an equiy-centered approach. MBHC believes that by building stronger connections and coordination of care, we can positively improve the trajectory, not only for the individual but also for our community, justice systems, and Missouri as a whole! Specifically, our Missouri Crisis Intervention (CIT) Team, Community Behavioral Health Liaison (CBHL), and Emergency Room Enhancement (ERE) programs work with local stakeholders to build stronger partnerships. MBHC is continually working to improve, advance, and grow our programs. Emergency Room Enhancement (ERE) programs, also known as emergency room diversion programs, are designed to reduce barriers that prevent individuals from seeking care in the most appropriate setting. The primary objective of these programs is to reduce the use of emergency departments and hospitalizations while decreasing rates of homelessness, unemployment, and arrests/law enforcement involvement by engaging individuals in treatment and utilizing community supports.
