#empathy is not only essential for young people but for all as part of this society… social media has made it far too easy for online disinhibitions to take place… and this can affect the mental health of the recipients of bad jokes, hurtful comments and inconsiderate replies. It can impact their self-esteem and self-worth. Hearing hurtful comments can be painful, isolating for a young person to the point of #selfharm. Empathy therefore, is such a powerful consideration and key life skill that all schools need to take on with their pupils… workshops, assemblies and tutor time can all be great ways to bring empathy into the conscious thinking of a young person’s mind. Putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, is probably the best way to learn empathy and we shouldn’t be scared to have these conversations with young people.
