Simulating Twist in Helical Gear Tooth Surfaces Manufactured by Hobbing Today, I have analyzed the deviations introduced during the hobbing process of helical gears when lead crowning is applied, causing the hob's trajectory to deviate from a straight line. Using IGD – Integrated Gear Design, I simulated these deviations and compared them with data presented in a study by Dr. Van-The Tran, Dr. Ruei-Hung Hsu, and Dr. Chung-Biau Tsay. While slight differences were observed between my results and those in the literature, these may be attributed to the lack of detailed information about the tip or root diameters and the hob’s trajectory. Despite this, the overall deviation patterns matched perfectly the referenced study, with just 2 microns of difference.
