Twenty-three years ago, we watched in shock and sadness as the tragic events of 9/11 unfolded before us.
In the middle of that sadness, our nation came together, united in shared grief, resilience, and the will to face adversity.
Today, a new generation learns about that day in the classroom. It’s hard to believe so much time has passed when the memories are still so clear.
Let us always remember the lives lost, honor the brave, and hold onto the unity that came from such a dark time in our history.

No doubt emotion plays a significant role in marketing.
But what about in life?
More often than not, I believe men tend to suppress emotions - Good and bad.
But we’d be lying if we said we didn’t have [strong] emotions.
I’ve always considered myself to be a highly emotional being.
But along with some bumps, turns, and detours, the past decade taught me to shut down those parts of me that used to be so emotional.
I knew it. And I missed it.
Thankfully, with the help of some great men, I’ve begun to unlock those concealed parts of my being once more.
And because I’m tapping into “the old me” and allowing myself to be raw and transparent…
I’m a better person.
I’m a better husband.
I’m a better father.
I’m a better friend.
I’m a better worker.
My point in sharing this video along with my thoughts is this:
Being a man does not mean being void of emotion for the sake of being strong, revered, or “manly.”
In fact, I believe many real aspects of masculinity, and humanity at large, are found in the honest, raw vulnerability of our emotions.
So don’t stray too far away from your emotions, friends. In fact, I dare you to embrace them, let them affect you, and allow them to shape your life.

Norte Dame paid $1.4M to learn this lesson:
When you have a solid plan, & each person executes the strategy, you don’t need superstars or even superior talent.
Stop looking for rockstars.
Build a strategic plan with good people willing to execute it & get rid of those unwilling to follow the game plan.

I heard this interview live and loved what Coach Hammock said in the moment. Overcome with emotion after upsetting the #5 team in the nation as a heavy underdog, Hammock said alot of things that apply to leadership.
1. The importance of trusting the process. Regardlees of the transfer portal or NIL, he built a culture and a foundation that his kids bought into. The process is bigger than the product and his kids stayed because of that. Just like in work, key to leadership is the culture you build around the process. The product isn’t always perfect or the outcome you want, but the process ensures you are making progress and that enables the breakthrough moment.
2. You don’t have to be a super hero, just do your job. Hammock told his team that they had to be their best, but he didn’t need them to try and do more than that. Teams are more efficient when everyone maximizes their role.
3. Believe in what’s possible. It’s cliche, but Hammock reminded his team that believing they could win was foundational. Without believing the possible, what is thought to be impossible is not going to happen. This is not much different than approaching work with a winning mindset. Despite the challenges, the roadblocks, and the obstables, having a winning mindset is a key unlock to transformation.
Congrats on the big win Northern Illinois!

As we enter 2024, the team at the Center has been wrestling with a complex question: what does public safety really mean?
The term itself is tossed around but rarely defined, and is often weaponized as a way to build support for punitive approaches. Yesterday, we defined what true public safety looks like to us on The Arc: https://bit.ly/3TOvRq8
We're constantly evolving our own understanding, but we know the real power lies in listening to a multitude of voices. So, we're throwing it open to you, our justice network, to discover: what does public safety mean to you? What innovative solutions can we build for a just future where everyone has the opportunity to not just survive, but thrive?
