If you've ever struggled with CT's secondary circuits cable lengths causing issues in your projects, this insight is for you. In current transformer (CT) work, 1 or 5 A output CTs function as "current sources." Understanding the voltage drop over the secondary circuit connected to the CT is crucial. Factors like CT winding resistance, cable length, and impedance significantly impact the permissible burden, making cable length a crucial aspect in secondary circuits. Conversely, mV output low power LPCTs act as "voltage sources." In these cases, cable length and impedance have minimal impact on the permissible burden due to the open circuit nature of voltage channels in relays and meters. Practically, cable length can vary, but shielding is essential for longer cables, changing the applicability of the classic VA burden definition. In my project, I designed a low-power step-up transformer that increases the voltage of an electrical signal while lowering the current. This transformer is commonly used in various electronic devices like DC-DC converters, where a higher voltage is required for efficient operation. What sets this project apart is that the transformer is smaller and has lower power ratings compared to its high-power counterparts.
