This week, TÜV SÜD Singapore had the privilege of hosting a delegation of South African water experts. Represented by different municipalities, the Water Research Commission (WRC) and Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), these visitors came together under the auspices of the Singapore Water Association (SWA) to engage in a critical discussion on water security and sanitation challenges. 🌍💧 During this engaging session, we explored the critical topic of ISO standards for Non-Sewered Sanitation Systems (#NSSS) and water services. We also gained valuable insights on the challenges South Africa faces on climate change and its impact on water resources. This marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to enhance global water and sanitation solutions. We are committed to driving meaningful dialogues and forging partnerships that promise to shape a sustainable future! 🌿 #tuvsud #Sustainability #WaterManagement #climaterisk #waterforlife #waterscarcity

Great symposium #CityU in Hong Kong on water and climate resilience. Hong Kong like many jurisdictions is reaching the physical and financial limit of what can be done to increase water supply in the face of growing demand. Their water management plan, like many others, highlights the need for demand side measures to address a projected gap between demand and supply. Demand-side action requires different skills to those found in agencies that build dams, desal plants, pumps and pipes. Dealing with people can be messy, unpredictable and uncertain. Something people accustomed to precision and control often find difficult. Water agencies are going to need to bring-in new skills and expand their approaches to water management. Later this month, in Vietnam, I will be working with #WSAP (Water Stewardship Asia Pacific) to bring a social simulation developed by #CRS (Centre for System Solutions) together with the normative approach of water stewardship to engage commercial, industrial and agricultural water uses in addressing catchment water challenges. The project is supported by the #AWP (Australian Water Partnership). #waterstewardship #water #resilience

A very important addition to the learning journey, completed the training course on Water Sensitive Cities (WSC) Index from Monash Sustainable Development Institute. Thank you WWF - Pakistan for the opportunity to learn and grow. Water Sensitive Cities (WSC) index is a tool designed to benchmark a city’s current performance against seven goals of a #WaterSensitiveCity. These goals include both biophysical and socio-institutional goals, and 34 corresponding indicators. Know more about the WSC Index here: https://lnkd.in/eZEFF8hQ The journey towards becoming a Water Sensitive City (WSC) is a path that leads to reducing competition and scarcity by ensuring efficient #watermanagement and promoting #conservation practices. WWF - Pakistan under the Australia-Pakistan Water Security Initiative (APWASI) has made significant progress to tailor, adopt and demonstrate the WSC approach in the context of Pakistan. This is a significant development for the Limpopo Basin and the entire Southern African region. As extreme weather events and especially prolonged droughts continue to have a huge impact on Africa's vulnerable river systems regional cooperation and leadership will be crucial WhyAfrica #watermanagement
African governments play a pivotal leadership role in creating an environment that enables investment in water security and climate-resilient sanitation. This is why it is significant that ministers responsible for #water from the Republics of Botswana, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa have recommitted their support to transboundary cooperation in the Limpopo River Basin. Yesterday, the ministers signed the Amendment to the Limpopo Watercourse Commission (LIMCOM) Agreement which will foster closer cooperation for judicious, sustainable and coordinated management of the shared watercourses in line with the SADC Secretariat Protocol on Shared Watercourses. The ministers also launched the $6mn Integrated Transboundary River Basin Management for the Sustainable Development of the Limpopo River Basin, implemented in partnership with the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (also the host of the AIP secretariat), with support from UNDP, through the Global Environment Facility International Waters Program. The AIP welcomes the leadership of these four countries in creating an enabling environment for water governance - which will ultimately improve the region's capacity to access finance investments in water, sanitation and environmental protection.
