In November 2024, East Lansing City Council made history by becoming the first city in #Michigan and one of the first in the nation to encourage the use of #masstimber in construction through city policies. The council unanimously approved zoning code changes to reduce risks for #developers who want to build environmentally friendly or #affordablehousing. These projects often involve longer and more complex planning processes. "By adopting this ordinance, East Lansing demonstrates its commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the built environment and embracing innovative construction methods like mass timber," said Sandra Lupien, Director of MassTimber at MSU. The new policy allows developers of mass timber, LEED-certified, or affordable housing projects to earn points for their sustainable efforts. We’ve been designing, manufacturing and erecting precision engineered quality timber frame structures for over 35 years and have just hit a major milestone at a South Queensferry development we’re working on for Lovell Partnerships Ltd.  Robertson Timber Engineering is designing, supplying and erecting high quality timber framed structures for Lovell’s Crossings development and this week craned the 200th pre-fabricated house frame into place. When complete, the mixed-tenure development will have 178 houses and 120 apartments.  Each timber frame was custom-built at our factory in Elgin, which uses the latest digital tools and technology to maximise efficiency and ensure precision engineering.  As well as being quick, it’s an incredibly effective way for projects to achieve net-zero, passivhaus and high BREEAM ratings. Research based on systematic interviews of key stakeholders in the UK timber construction supply chain (including construction and demolition contractors). The Land and Environment Court has approved two major development projects in Bondi Beach after Clutch Developments Pty Ltd successfully appealed decisions by Waverley Council. The court’s rulings clear the way for a new shop-top housing development at 135–139 Curlewis Street and modifications to the approved project at 141–155 Curlewis Street, already under construction. Both decisions include strict conditions to address public domain improvements, noise controls, and environmental safeguards.
